Is it possible to change smoked cockpit glass in the F6F?
#1

The gunsight is also smoked, making bandit-spotting against water background difficult. Is there any way to make it clear?

I suspect that this could be changed by editing the color scale in the appropriate mat files. Probably a 1 hour job. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are asking, from your body of work I am certain that you know more about working with textures than I do.

Ronnco, maybe you could tackle this one. With your demonstrated skills I am sure that you could be a great modder. We need modders with an interest in the Pacific theatre as AAA promises to be the center of the PTO universe for a long time to come.

RONNCO, follow my instructions :

1. create a wordpad file which contains this :

[ClassInfo]
ClassName TMaterial
[General]
tfDoubleSide 0
tfShouldSort 0
tfDropShadow 0
tfGameTimer 1
[LightParams]
Ambient 0.0
Diffuse 0.0
Specular 0.0
SpecularPow 0
Shine 0.95
[Layer0]
TextureName ../F6F-5/reticle.tga
PaletteName
Frame 0.0
VisibleDistanceNear 0.0
VisibleDistanceFar 10000.0
TextureCoordScale 0.0 0.0 1.0 1.0
ColorScale 1.0 0.7 0.2 0.85
AlphaTestVal 0.1 // of [0.1, 0.5, 0.9]
tfNoDegradation 1
tfWrapX 1
tfWrapY 1
tfMinLinear 1
tfMagLinear 1
tfMipMap 1
tfBlend 1
tfBlendAdd 1
tfTestA 0
tfTestZ 1
tfUpDateClear 0
tfModulate 1
tfNoTexture 0
tfAnimatePalette 0
tfAnimateSkippedFrames 0
tfNoWriteZ 0

2. Save as : Reticle.mat

3. Place this file in (you have to create some folders) :
MODS\reticles F6F\3DO\Cockpit\F6F-3

reticles F6F is the name of your mod. You can choose what you want.

OK, it's finsih with F6F-3.
_____________________________________________

Now for F6F-5 you have to copy/paste the same Reticle.mat in :
MODS\reticles F6F\3DO\Cockpit\F6F-5

It's finished.

If you want to adjust the reticle light yourself, you must to adjust this line in Reticle.mat :
ColorScale 1.0 0.7 0.2 0.85

ColorScale is RGB value. The last number is transparency
1.0 is RED
0.7 is GREEN
0.2 is BLUE
0.85 is transparency.

With this settings (ColorScale 1.0 0.7 0.2 0.85), reticles of Hellcat should be good for your request.

Cat_Mouth: Excellent! This works great for the reticle. I'm still seeking a way to lighten the canopy glass and gunsight. Hopefully it won't be too complicated. Here's a screenshot with the canopy open showing the clear sky, then darkened by the canopy and darkened again by the gunsight:

I guess they're shaded to preserve the illusion that there's plexiglass there, but I could do with the canopy glass being as clear as the view with the canopy open, and less shading of the gunsight.

To all the others, off-topic is okay with me! Big Grin

I would like to get into this scene some more, but as it is, I don't really even have time to do skins. Cry I'm already two weeks ( ) late starting my garden this year. I'll have some new skins finished when time allows. Some are partially done already.

That is unbelievable work. It looks like a promo shot you might see for a next generation flight sim.

Sorry about my earlier post, it had that rookie telling the veteran his business tone that I regret.

Nah, I didn't take it that way at all. Smile

I did a little goofing around with the Mk VIII gunsight .tga. Just a rough draft to see if it would work. Mine's on the right.

Hi Rennco...
What you are talking about has always been a sore point with me toward some il2 aircraft.

I am 68 & have the beginning of cataracts.

Gunsights with the darkened "sun shade" effect totally blinds me.

Check the Migs gunsights out for a nice clear sight...(now if they would only raise the seat and bring the gunsight up from below the dash it would be perfect...lol

I am looking forward to you fixing ***ALL*** those gunsights...lol....
