Oh I forgot to mention the airfield at Tavoy, south of Moulmein.
I like the cool bushes too. It adds some floral color to the drab jungle.

Thanks CzechTexan....I already downloaded all those maps....lol
They are very detailed......but also very large....I might join them all up in Photoshop...after reducing them a bit.....

Those Flame of the Forest trees are quite beautiful against the greenery, and are just in flower right now...

I think we are our own worst enemy sometimes........once we start making a map, the quest for perfection creeps in......
I just got hold of some nice detailed maps and am almost re-doing the rivers/rail/roads

also Bangkok isn't called "the Venice of the East" for nothing....hundreds of canals....before post-war when they started to fill them in and use them as roads...

Nice pics. Thanks! You're putting lots of work into this project and it's paying off.
Can you see the colorful trees from high above in an airplane? I really like all the bright GREEN fields. It just looks better than the dark green forests we're so used to seeing.

I'll be getting a brand new really good computer soon so I'll be able to utilize mods and map making better. I hope to start on a Central Burma map since no one else seems to be interested in doing that. I'd like to incorporate some of the Thailand map details into this Burma map. Map building seems complicated and I'll need some help but I'd like to try. I think if I can just get started on the right track then it won't be so hard.

Thailand looks great from what I see. How much longer til you're finished?

The bright green fields are meant to represent the rice paddies...... and the ones with white patches look like rice fields with water in them.....

I am working alone so there is still a lot to do......I'm pretty happy with the rivers now, so need to do more roads....just the main ones.....not that there were many at that time.....and all my roads are soft-surface..

the railways are finished......well, the lines anyway.....no stations done yet..I've been trying to get the rail/road/rivers to follow actual routes...especially in the mountain ranges..to follow contours and valleys.....at least the road and rail can be laid a length at a time in 3D view...but very time consuming

no houses in yet....just a handful of temples

no rail or road ways in burma or indo-china yet either...nor towns

another couple of months I should say.....

I should be able to give you advice when you start to build your map....my textures should suit yours too

Hi Fabianfred,

I am Kirby and have been with that other (M------4T----)site for over a year or so. I have finally found this great site.
I see you live in Thailand. WoW! a very long time at that too.
I have lived in Thailand for 3 years now with a Thai wife. We live near Hang Dong in Chiang Mai.
I am a an English Teacher at a high school in Lamphun.

YOUR MAP IS FANTASTIC! I CAN"T WAIT FOR YOUR FINAL RESULTS!

I have been drooling over the screen shots.

I have also downloaded your trees they are great love the bananas, bamboo and flowering shrubs and vines.

I am just starting to get use to all the mods etc for the modded version of the game.

I am very keen on South East Asian World War 2 history.

It would be nice to know more about the flight sim community in Thailand. I have not flown on line as yet just downloaded missions and campaigns.

One thing, correct my if I am wrong I read on the net doing research that the Japanese had a small airfield in LAMPANG.

I have only found one decent photo of a beaufighter strafing trucks on a road from Chiang Mai to Chaing Rai road.

Have you found alot of difficulties with W.W.2 Thailand pictures?

AWESOME! AWESOME! INCREDIBLY DETAILED WORK!

It's great to see because I have travelled from the Nothern boarder to a Hat Yai.

Thanks...fellow farang
I have been living in Fang for ten years now since I married a girl from here.
I used to upload missions to mission4today and their previous site Airwarfare.com...under the nickname "loon"
The Thai il2 community are here.... http://www.thaiflight.com/mach/modules. ... forum&f=32
they also fly on-line at Hyperlobby but I haven't been on-line for some time...too busy with this map and other mods....
I have not seen ANY photos of wartime here...even Burma airstrips...quite bare of much information compared to europe and the Pacific...
I usually get into CM once a month...maybe we can meet up... 081-4730785 ...feel free to phone me and chat.

at my usual site .... http://www.4shared.com/account/dir/4397 ... sions.html

you need the "Thailand map" ..... and the "invisible_kronstadt_plate" (if you didn't get it already with the "ffb_line_scramble_map&mission")

also there are skins for Ki_21 and P-36A in Thai markings

and the "TreesTextures" are nice if you don't have them, because they are also on the map

from the readme........

add to maps/all.ini file .....

Thailand Thailand/load.ini

Alpha test version......using 4.09beta textures.....I have not tested in 4.08 or excellent settings as I use Perfect.

Being very mountainous, the North of Thailand, Laos and Burma, look their best when using the 4.09beta patch and the increased distance visibility available when using Perfect settings.

Towns and villages are only lightly populated .... and it is best if you install the new trees I have included.......being:

Coconut trees; Flame trees (two types); banana trees (three types); Bougainvillea;

The Kiev kolok tower I have sunk below ground level to look like a chedi/stupa.

The airstrips are 'In the rough'....so be careful when taxiing ....I have used an invisible kronstadt plate to ensure smooth runways for take-off/landings.

I use a detailed 2D map because although modern, is derived from satellite data, so the size and shape of the hills/mountains are exactly like you see upon the ground. I have added Black lines for the railways and red for the roads, so please ignore the modern roads marked upon this map which will have no equivalent on the ground.

I have made this map as a mix of old and new........I left the modern reservoirs in, which came with the satellite data, since they are pleasing to the eye on the landscape and are an extra help with navigation. There is a certain amount of Jungle, but probably far less than there actually was at the time of the Second World War.

All rivers are above sea-level, so if you look from the surface level you can see under the landscape....I do not intend to rectify this.

I tried to approximate the huge canal system in place in the Bangkok area, hampered by the minimum size of one pixel for rivers. After WW2 Thailand started to modernise in the 1950's and filled in many canals (klongs) in the Bangkok metropolitan area to build roads. It used to have the name of 'Venice of the East'.

At my download site ( http://www.4shared.com/account/dir/4397 ... sions.html ) I also have a version of the 'morenations' mod ....in which I have included some of the Royal Thai Air Force Squadrons from their 1940 orbat.

I have made a few simple skins with RTAF markings for the Hawk and Ki-21 and will post them to my site also.

Some useful reading is available at these links...
