Don't feel bad, M8! The first time I tried to catch a thermal the instructor said, "When a wing kicks up, roll in that direction and make a tight, nose up turn and circle." So, that's what I did. Worked great! Caught a good one and was going up like a rocket! Then the instructor said, "Look up." There was another sailplane above us in the same thermal circling in the opposite direction. The instructor said, "Now, get out of the thermal and get back in circling in the same direction as the craft above us. We don't want any COLLISIONS!" :lol:

negative...i prefer a winch ....but we have a tow plane too...
I've seen them go up by a tow from a truck! :lol:
If there's good air and you have a high performance plane you don't need much altitude to get going. I also understand that sailplanes with motors have been popular in Europe. :wink:
