How accurate is spit mk1 mod (2.6) ?
#1

Hey i was wondering if the developers could tell me the performance characteristics of the FLIGHT MODEL of the new Spitfire Mk1 (i presume a MkIA as that was BoB spit).

Usually i would not ask this, but this is a highly important plane to me. I have read through a few pages of the MOD DOWNLOAD SECTION thread. I did not quite get the full picture.

As its one of the two best fighter planes in the world at its time i have this request.

Can someone EITHER add a new page of info for the Spit Mk1 to the objects menu in the IL2 main menu OR list the basic information about the FLIGHT MODEL HERE.

I already have much of the REAL FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS written down. I would like to know how they compare please.

Thanks.

They don't compare.

The plane is modeled to fit with what's already in the game ("Oleg's world") to preserve playability. A realistic Spitfire I would totally unbalance the game. IMO the creators of this bird did a very good job to guesstimate the in-game data for the Spit from the available planes.

Why do you think a "Real Spitfire" would unbalance the game? The current model is relatively "ok" as far as turn rate goes, its ceiling is too high..but oh well..

The Spitfires historical advantage against the 109's was its performance in the horizontal turn.. if you look at the numbers, the turn rate isn't a GIANT difference.. A Spitfire on your tail will take several flat circles to get on your 6 starting in front.. the turn rate difference was something like 16' better than the 109E3/4 if I remember correctly. The Spitfire was an outstanding point defense fighter, but it was an Uber plane in all areas. It had strong and weak points against the 109E's..they are a good matchup and they were historically.

It would unbalance the game because every aircraft has been downgraded in the game. Therefore, if the Spitfire was put in as it's true values it would be seriously advantaged over all aircraft. So, to keep the balance, it's fine-tuned so that it's appropriate to the entire sim.

The only alternative is to go through and manually edit every single flight model so that it's 'true-to-life', but then not only does that mean hours of work, but also that you'd need new slots for the aircraft to preserve online integrity,

I see now. I haven!t flown the Spit against a 109 online yet, but against AI luftwaffe boys she seems very downgraded...
I think it's not the fault of the Spit. someone just has to rather break the code for AI, and make them blackout, overheat, and stop them seeing the blind spots...
The Spit is a great job, and I'm very happy to have it in il2! Although, it would need new cockpit, textures, but that's a different story Smile

Can't understand why people keep bringing this stuff up... It's just a flippin game. So what if the Spit can't get on a 109's tail in two and a half turns.. Just play with what you have. You can have all the FM of the real aircraft and still get shot down. We all know that the skill level of the pilot is one of the 'major' factors in air combat regardless of aircraft performance..

Agreed. And the Spitfire is definately a match for the Bf-109 E as it is. It's not like we're flying with Pzl P.11 fm.

The Spitty seems fine to me in relation to in-game contemporaries. To be honest, I'm just bloody grateful to have it at all.

i agree with you, it is just a game, but we still try to enjoy the realisticity of the game versus the real life

You have just answered your own post mate... You are right, its a 'game'. and for that reason you are never going to get anything like the real feeling or the performance of a real aircraft.. However, to enjoy the 'game' you are simply suspending belief and imagining that you are a WWII fighter pilot.
If you think you are close to flying the real deal just because someone tweaks the FM to what you think is 'more realistic' you are decieving yourself.. It is still just a game.
Its all in the mind.. Unless of course you are away with the fairy's....... and you really do think you can fly a real Spit or 109!

I think what this thread means is that the migration from Ubi is almost complete. The never ending cycle of the chart monkey's verbal buggery will soon be a common feature here too. They will change their login names, but many will be easily recognisable by their writing style and individual bias .
