Thanks for the kind words Rigamortiz! The BP Defiant is from Classic Airframes (Czech company) and I felt required some modifying. I scratch built the front canopy and screen, opened up the rear turret, added wingroot detail, and rebuilt the part on the fuselage spine which rises/falls to allow the turret to rotate.

A very nice kit Out Of Box too though! 8)

How did you make that nice grass? I'm making a1/48 Spit MKIX diorama, and I'm stuck as far as the grass goes. grass mats are cool in 1/72, but for this 1/48 I want something mor realistic.

Hi Reflected,

The grass is Heki Static Grass Summer which is basically loose flock (nylon) and comes available in a range seasonal colours.

There is also a little plastic 'charger bottle' available from Noch (just google Noch static grass applicator), and you pour the grass into the bottle, give it a good shake and the grass is 'statically charged'.

I made the base by routing a border around some Jelutong, laid down some thin cork mat using spray mount. I painted the matt with shades of dry Earth brown.

Once dry, I applied a thin coat of PVA glue to cover the cork matt. When that has gone tacky the grass is then applied a small area at a time by shaking the bottle and holding upside down about 2 -3 inches above the surface and squeezing the static grass onto the area-just build up as necessary. Turn the base upside down to shake the excess off and pour back into the bottle.

You can then blow accross the grass at different angles to create the effect you want. All this took about 1.5 hours. Smile

Wow, sounds like you put a lot of work into it. I'd love to be able to build kits and paint them as well as you - Like I said, I love them.

I love that submarine, and the 109 is pretty nice too!

Here's a 1:48 Spitfire IX of mine, soon to be part of a diorama. The ground crew is finished too, just waiting for my grass mat to arrive. It's gonna be J. Johnson returning from a mission, and explaining to one of his fellows how he got the tail clobbered, and how he got that Hun finally..+ random ground crew, jerry cans, fence, tree, dog, other stuff... I'll post some pics when finishedWink
