Samples folder "READ ONLY"? I have many sounds to
#1

I have just downloaded the newest version of the soundmod with the switcher program. I really like it, especially the QMB plus.
I quickly ported over my sounds from my previous sound mod version to this one, but they won't work in this version. I can go into the Samples folder and my custom sounds will play in there, but in game the sounds are the ones that came with the mod, not mine.
I have many new sounds for machine guns, cannon, and even some new engine sounds recorded directly the the plane itself...even inside while in flight. You all will like them.
To get back to my problem, I unchecked the read only box, and I still have this problem in game. Il2 won't recognize my new sounds, it will play the "original" sound mod sounds.
I hope some one has some ideas as to how to get my sounds to be used and saved in the samples folder so Il2 will use them.
Since I don't post here much, I don't really know where to upload my files to. I am sure you will appreciate them and the hard work I put into them.

Welcome to the Dark Side! J/K.

Do you have two folders? A Files folder and a Mods folder? The Mod uses the first found folder, i.e. if you have the new sounds in the "files" folder, it will use those first before the sounds in the "Mods" folder. So please check what folders you have and were the sounds are. If you use VISTA, and have it in the default "Programs/UBI....." then that is most likely the problem.

I hope this helps.

So, what is the right way to take new sound files and put them into Il2 to work properly?
As an example, I made new 50 cal sounds, so I renamed my new files MG_Browning50 and MG_Browning50x and placed them into the samples folder.
I thought they would work in game but they do not. The original sounds are still used in game.
Someone must know what I am doing wrong.

Are they the right sample rate? Wait, wait..... The new sounds must go into the sample file in the Mods directory, not in the samples file of IL-2. Maybe that is what happened. Check that out please.

I am using XP 32 Pro.
I do have 2 folders...Files and MODS. I see ANOTHER complete set of sounds in the 1Basic folder.
Why are there two folders with the same sounds in them?
I would have never thought to look in another place for the same sounds.
I will put my new sounds in this 1Basic folder and see what happens.

It is most likely leftover from the "old" mod system.

Just use one sound folder. Rename or delete (Rename is better) the other folders and see what happens.

Using the 1 Basic folder in the Mods folder did the trick!
Thanks for the info and the help.
