A question about the damage mods...
#1

These mods are visual only in nature correct? Just the way that the damage looks on the aircraft... sort of like removing the bitemark from the back of the 109 damage graphic.. but not altering in any way the actual damage in the sim or any lanes susceptibility to damage.. Am I about right on this? Someone was asking me about this and I just want to make sure that I am telling him the corrcect facts.

I'm not hundred percently uptodate regarding the terminology but imho damage mod = destructable objects mod which is here: (The link is inoperative)

it gives more realistic damage properties tor objects, buildings & ships

also

Quote:it allows you to destroy the AAA guns on a big ship with prolonged MG or cannon fire.... and also allows you to destroy the small fishing boats and PAM's or torpedo boats with .50" or cannons.....or to disable their AA guns
also may be able to sink a freighter with prolonged gunfire

the damage model of the actual hulls of the big ships has been unaltered

fabianfred got a more advanced version in his mod pack iirc

You're referring to that 109 damage thread awhile back aren' t you?

Yes, only visual. I believe it was Bee, with some CannonUK input there, that was working on improving the visual effects by editing the .TGA

I would have thought the NO DAMAGE / FLIGHT / WEAPON MODEL MODIFICATION warnings left right and centre would have given the game away...

Other than that, as vpmedia said, the 'damage' or destructable object mods, don't effect the aircraft, merely the ground targets.

Yeah yeah yeah.. I know.. but you know me.... Tongue I figure asking is the best way to clarify something when asked a question and you aren't 100% sure of the answer.. stupidity comes in when you don't ask,...

Something else thats hadme wondering is where do the damage models for the frankenplanes come from? Is it a bastard mixture of the damage models of all the aircraft the parts came from? Or do they have their own made from scratch?

Depends on the aircraft, the build technique, and to which bit of the damage model you refer to.

If I am correct....the damage model is not only visual, but it is also the way your plane reacts when damaged. For example: Big hole in the wing = plane will tilt to one side. So its a little more than just visual effects. I don't know if that is the same thing...but I could be wrong.
