Engine Sound Mod HELP needed
#1

Ok been enjoying all the mods but still having issues with the Eng Sound Mod (version 090) and many of the planes. I haven't tested all the a/c but I see more often in the multi-engine A/C - in cockpit mode: either very low engine sound ot none at all from pit and if I go to Auto pilot then I get a beeping sound. When I go to F2 mode I hear the engines. I get the same low or no eng sound when flying the F4U.

Is this a known issue with a fix? Or is this user error?

Thanks in advance

Bump - Anyone - please? The Corsair just doesn't feel right without cockpit sounds when I'm in the pit.

I do not know how to fix your problem, as I do not know how this all works. But I can tell you that its a shame when no one feels like helping out. Sad No one has replied to any of my bug reports either......

Hi Fly-Zo - Ok that would help in the process: I had installed the IL@ 1946 DVD version to 4.09mbeta 1. I originally did not install the Sound Mod just the 409 MOD b1.exe, the MOD_Activator_v5_2_IL2_4_08.exe and IL2_Mod_Switcher_4_08m_to_4_09bm.exe and one of the recommended new DLLS.

I messed around with that for a bit and liked the new then flyanbles so I went ahead and installed the wrapper and AC Installer with just about all the new A/C. Also Flushy's Clouds and CanonUK arms and drops tanks. All was going well. I wanted to try the Eng Sound Mod and first tried the SFX 0.6 with choppy sound, missing in cockpit sound and what I call slow frame rates especially in Fly-by mode.

I then used MR. Jolly's Sound Mod Uninstaller to emove this version and then installed the 0.93 (same results) and then 0.92; again with the with choppy sound, missing in cockpit sound and what I call slow frame rates especially in Fly-by mode.

In many posts I read that folks were using the 0.90 version so after the Sound Mod uninstaller I used the 0.90 version - no choppy sounds or slow frame rates. As I was excited to see I was back to "normal" I didn't check all the A/C.

I started to the other day and many of the multi-engined A/C have very, very loe sound or none at all from the cockpit. I also noticed if I go to F2 or Auto pilot the low sound goes silent and I here a sort of buzzing sound. The Corsair (all variants) has no sound from the cockpit.

I checked the IL2 setup and I have sound set to 44100Hz. I'm not sure where to confirm settings for audio enhancements or hardware acceleration. I have a ATI 1600X Pro. I have increased my RAM but can't recall what it is ... I get very good results with the sim and like eye candy so have settings on max.

Could thsi issue be due to the way I installed the Eng Sound Mod after all the other major MOds and also b/c I installed and uninstalled 3 versions before keeping the 0.90 version? I added the Dive Sounds Mod too and the New Tempest Sound the same time I added the 0.90 sound mod version.

Any advice would be appreciated ... the sounds are a great addition and I would hate to not be able to experience them in game.

Thanks,

-DU

... ah , no one can predict all variants that user would came out with installation process

safest way would be to start the whole thing from start , respecting procedure .... ( you can backup your MODS folder so you don't have to install all mods again )

as for "audio enhancements or hardware acceleration" option goes .... its option that should be checked ( il2 setup - sound tab - custom ) or ingame in audio setup options

Hi fly_zo - thanks man! BTW I love the Army or Navy photo you wouldn't mind sending a bigger version so I can use as a desktop pic?

I will do go ahead and start from scratch as you recommend. I was messing with it all night yesterday evening and found some oddities: the A-20C/G engine noise in F2 mode is the stick sound. It is just odd.

I had to reboot my PC for some reason and I went ahead and tested the sounds again (on the Corsair) and low and behold - I had the LOUD and imppressive P&W R2800 thundering from cockpit mode!!!! I then tried the A-20s and sure enough they had the Eng Sound Mod sound from both the pit and F2 mode!!!!

However I checked a few more and had the same issue on the multi-engine A/C where the sound was either barely audiable from the cockpit or no sound at all (early B-25s, B-17s, B-24). Very odd stuff.

This am I tested again and sure enough I lost the MOD engine sound from both the A-20 and Corsair variants! I have a theory - before mod I had issues launching the 1946 - it would launch and then I'd get stuck on the menu screen: I would have the music playing but the cursor wouldn't move. I would need to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to desktop then cancel Task Manager, then click on IL2 at botton of tooltray and after a minute or two of a dark screen I would be back on the menu screen but thsi time the mouse worked. This usuallworked but sometimes I would have to do a total shut down since I would get stuck on the dark screen and never go back to the IL2 menu.

AFTER I modded I didn't need to do this at all ... I would launch and it would go into the new Mod splash screen and then the menu and all was fine. However after the Eng Sound Mod I did ocassionally encounter the scenario described above. I believe thsi is when the Eng Sound issue occurs. My theory is maybe at launch the game launches but with a mix of sounds? All the other grahpical modes are present - new A/C, flyables, Flushy's clouds, etc. but I get the described emg sound issue on some of the planes - in the majority of the others I have the mod engine sound.

Also, one thing I can't seem to decipher is the Dive Sounds - I installed thsi as well but not sure what it is I should be hearing. maybe I installed this incorrectly and caused some issues? Anyway I'll give a shot and thanks for yor help and replies.

...because game loads so slow you mustn't click anywhere on the desktop while in process of loading ... if you do then game/program acts like it is minimized ( so your cursor gets frozen ) . It has nothing to do with mods ...

you can hear dive sounds when your plane reach certain speed .... just dive and you will hear it

BTW, make sure you have enable extensions checked in game audio settings ....

Hi fly_zo - I have enable extension on in the in game audio menu. The engine sounds are very odd now: I get the mod engine noise while in cockpit but the un-modded sound in F2 / F3 view?

I have two questions: I have the game mod switcher - how does that work and could this be causing some of the engine mod sound issues?

I have the sound mod eliminator from Mr. Jolly but how do I uninstall the Sabre Engine sound and Dive Sound mods?

Thanks in advance.

mod switcher is really just different sets of files for each game version .... it extracts files for chosen version and replace present ones

best way is to extract those mods ( Sabre˛& Dive) to temp folder .... see which files they contain (and path)... search and remove them from game . Reinstall sound mod afterwards ...

Ok I removed the dive sounds and deleted the presets and samples folders. I went ahead and followed the install process on the thread for beginners by vpmedia.

So I first installed the 409_MOD_b1m.exe; then the MOD_Activator_v5_2_IL2_4_08.exe. I then installed the Eng Sound Mod version 090 then Sabre engine sounds and then the Dive Sounds per install instructions for each. On the Dive Sounds install it asked what Mod version so I chose Mod Activator.

I then installed the wrapper.exe and then finally AC_INSTALLER_v2_2.exe; this also asked me which version so I chose the Mod Activator. In the past I had chosen the sound version I installed (090).

Well I get all the engine sounds from the planes in question from the cockpit (A-20s and Corsairs) but it is the stock game sounds? I guess I should have selected the Eng Sound Mod version whern I was asked in the Dive Sounds and AC Installer?

Any ideas?

Thanks mate!

mod activator needs to be installed only if you don't want new sounds or if you are installing SFX version ...
if you have sound mods 90 ...9.3 you don't need mod activator !

As you have installed sound mod 9.0 as last one you need to choose that version when asked in any further mod installer

Thanks fly_zo! I have been away from computeer for the last two days so only posting back to you now.

I guess I know where I screwed the pooch on this issue! I originally wanted to test the waters first and installed the 409_MOD_b1m.exe and the MOD_Activator_v5_2_IL2_4_08.exe. I then installed the wrapper and new A/C plus other mods as I mentioned.

So obviously when I wanted the Engine Sound Mod and installed that WITH the Mod Activator I started having issues! So I have two choices: uninstall Eng Sound Mod and then reinstall the SFX version since I have the Mod Activator or uninstall the Mod Activator.

What do you recommend? If it is to uninstall Mod Activator is there a thread on that anywhere you can point me to?

Once again - THANKS for all your help!

hmmm ... i would go just with reinstalling sound mod and then reinstalling wrapper . Next thing is reinstalling AC INSTALLER 2.2 ( choose correct sound mod version when asked !!!)

..... this is just my speculation so please back up first

hope that would help

fly_zo - that worked mate! I installed the 090 engine sound mod version, wrapper and AC installer v.2.2 and on the previously affected aircraft where I had very low or no audio from cockpit view, I now have enfine sound. That is a step forward.

However, I have the stock engine sound .for these planes. I checked the samples folder for what I think is the Cyclone and P&W R2800 and the sound in the samples is not what I hear for the A-20s, Corsairs, Hellcats or T-bolts in-game. I guess I have some wierd anomoly with these planes! I recall that I had the Mod sound for these planes when I first installed the sound mod but I guess something in the install/uninstall process of some mods caused this issue. The majority of the other A/C (like the Mustang, Spit, Tempest, Wildcat, SBD) have the mod engine sound. I have not tested all the A/C yet!

Also I did not install the Dive sounds or new Sabre engine sounds yet. I will do this later to test if this COULD cause the loss of sound from the cockpit for me or not. Thanks again!
