Graphics glitch
#1

I updated the graphics drivers the other day and since then I get this graphic glitch that appears below me when flying over sea and the same kind of thing seems to happen on the aircraft as well, but the glitch on the planes appears and then disappears really quickly. Both seem to only happen when the camera is facing a certain direction!

So apart from rolling back the drivers is there anything I can tweak in the Nvidia Control Panel or any thing else?

Graphics card GeForce 9800 GT with driver version 258.96 for win 7 64Bit.

In my experience, this is likely related somehow to your driver and your update to the that driver confirms it in this situation.

Though this is possibly a corrupt driver (Did you test the driver download for corrupt files?), it is more likely an incompatibility of the driver with your system.

The other common possibility would be an incorrect setting somewhere in your system, especially in the graphics control panel. I doubt if it is a setting conflict in your conf.ini file, but that is a remote possibility.

Can you post screenshots of your graphics control panel settings and also copy and paste your conf.ini file settings? We need more information to help you.

I moved this to the PC Technical Help forum where it belongs.

Here's the settings used in Nvidia Control Panel, at the time that screen shot was taken I was using the "Default Settings" on left, but I normally use the "Normal Settings" on the right.

Madcat,

Keep copy of your old configuration in IL-2 Setup, Control Panel, and conf.ini

Using Anisotropic mode can fix some anomalies:

IL-2 Setup...

Texture mipmap filter: Anisotropic

Texture compression: None

Control Panel

Force mipmaps: None ( Check for this in your control panel )

Texture Filtering Negative LOD bias: Clamp (Always Clamp)

If these changes do not fix it, then we will take it from there.

Thanks for the reply, much aprechated Smile

I tried what you said and still the same problem Sad. Only setting I didn't change was the "Force mipmaps" which isn't in the Nvidia Control Panel!

Madcat, we are narrowing focus by process of elimination.

Tell us about your system. What is your graphics card and what is the exact model number of your driver?

Driver version is 258.96 for win7 64bit

Graphics card is XFX GeForce 9800 GT

As for the rest of my computer if it helps;

CPU; QuadCore Intel Core i7 920, 2833 MHz
Motherboard; Asus P6T Deluxe V2
RAM; 6135 MB (DDR3-1066 DDR3 SDRAM)
Sound card; Creative X-Fi Xtreme
OS; Win 7 Pro 64bit

PS I'm not shore but I think the driver version I was using before was 257.21 for win7 64bit
-----------
Update; had a tinker with setting ect... but no luck. I saw that some newer drivers where out ( 260.89 whql ) so gave them ago to see if it made a difference and it did, sort of! It still doing it but much less, if that make sense. Over the water its seems harder now to find the right angel with the camera to reproduce the glitch, but when you do find it is much reduced in size and flickers on and off quickly now. With the aircraft again the glitch is much reduced in size and seems to appear less often, but when it dose appear, it disappears even quicker now.

Madcat, that shows that perhaps you should go to an earlier graphics driver to completely eliminate the anomaly.

I am glad to know that you are making progress. Smile

Madcat,

Did you fully uninstall your old drivers before you installed the new one?
The situation you are experiencing is a common occurrence when new drivers are installed over the top of old ones.

Try D/Ling Driver Cleaner Pro. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll host it for d/l for you.
Run it and have it uninstall your Nvidia Video Drivers.
Then run CCleaner to confirm that all old files and registry entries are completely gone.
Restart the computer. You will get a warning on reboot that Windows has found a new device. IGNORE THIS WARNING!!!!
Do not let Windows install the new driver.
Once at the desktop, (you will most likely be in either 640x480 or 1024x768 VGA), run the Nvidia setup program for the new driver.
The driver will install and then reboot the system.

That's it.

Madcat,

Great news! Big Grin

Of course, for the sake of the readers, testing for corrupt files is mentioned and explained in my IL-2 Newbie Guide ( IL-2 Technical Help forum ) and IL-2 Guide for Computers, Benchmarking, Optimizing, and Tweaking ( PC Technical Help forum ).

Testing a download for corrupt files is the second task after scanning for malware.

True, but what are the odds in installing new graphic driver and some dll's on a separate hard drive getting corrupted on the same day at around the same time.

Any way live and learn, thank you again Big Grin
