Sound Mod - Seriously Now!
#1

Putting an APB out on my sound mod issue. I have had some terrific help and support from fly_zo and others and have made some progress (see viewtopic.php?t=6546 ) BUT the darn issue of missing engine sound is BACK both in cockpit and external modes!

I am exasperated to say the least with this issue! I initially did not install the Sound Mod but just the Mod Activator and the 409_MOD_b1m mod. I then installed the new A/C and several mods like the new clouds, exhasut flames, etc. All this stuff was great so I wanted to install the Eng Sound Mod to get the full effect..

The issue that I had and now still have is with missing engine noise typically the USN A/C and many of the multi-engine A/C. I would get something of the A/C to work but they never stayed that way. So I went ahead yesterday and did a full reinstall and followed install procedures: Eng Sound Mod version 09, 409_MOD_b1m.exe and then the wrapper and AC_INSTALLER_v2_2.exe.

I met with success (and let me tell you what a difference it is with the new engine sounds!) but this am I checked it and the issue is back - no engine sound from the cockpit view in the Corsair, Hellcat, Thunderbolt, A-20s and many of the multi-engine planes. Also on F2/F3 mode the eng sound is the stock engine sound?

However many of the other aircraft that I checked have the Eng Sound Mod (Spitfire, Hurricane, 109, 190, P-38, P-51) in cockpit and F2/F3 modes. I don't really understand the issue especially since this second go around I followed procedure. The first time as I said I didn't install Sound Mod just the MOD_Activator_v5_2_IL2_4_08 and 409_MOD_b1m.exe. I only realized later that for the sound mod you need either the Sound Mor OR the MOd Activator not both - so I thought that was my issue.

I have searched the forum and have found the same issue as I have explained but with no clear cut "fix" - some have set sound on set-up to headphones, others have reinstalled the Sound Mod version 9x but told the AC Installer that it was a later version, others in the sound set-up go to default settings and do not enable extension. These are some of the fixes used by members but this has not worked for me.

I have also read that with the Sound Mod version 9.0 that it will periodically do this and to reinstall the mod and it will fix itself but I have tried this as well with no luck.

I'm very interested in the Eng Sound Mod and asking for some members advice on a fix that has worked but also on why this happens even after I did a reinstall and it worked for about a day. Any help and advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Have you tried one of the other soundmod versions?

Did you make your new attempts over an already modded install?

If you get to the point you need to start from a new install from your 1946 disc, check out this post, it might help. viewtopic.php?t=6632

You will have to uninstall your original install of the game. Any copies will not be affected.

I have been where you are, get something working another quits, spend a lot of time looking for fixes, more frustration, so I decided to just chuck the whole thing and start over and it worked.
I hope it will for you if you decide to use it.

One caution, if you go the new install route, make sure the folder you are making the new install into is empty, if you uninstall your original copy of 1946, that you have modded, the uninstaller leaves some stuff.

Holy Cow! That is impressive and from the remarks I saw in another thread it works. Thanks!

So I saw the info on the link and what a procedure!

I think with all the stuff I done it is easier to start from a clean slate. I'll make sure I really clean this up. I'll start that this evening.

Thanks again! I'll report back later.

Thanks Forager!

All cleaned up and installing a fresh IL2 1946. One quick question: which sound mod version do you recommend or in your opinion sounds/works best?

Forager - reporting SUCCESS! Thanks for responding to my post with this great MOD installation guide. The Sound Mod is awesome! I used the 093 version.

One question for you: in the MOD installation process guide you mention a fix for the Russian load page - could you please share this fix?

Thanks again for helping me out (and many others from this forum)!

Hey Forager - I'm back mate and MANY thanks! Enjoy the modded version again with NO issues. Again this was a great piece of info on how to PREPERLY install the Mods.

OK I searched the forum and found this fix for the Russian load screen.

So I hate to say this but I'm not sure what I need to do: so I add the two lines to the filelist.txt and put the two .tag files from the .rar folder in the files/gui directory ... but I then need to create 1074x768 tga file to replace the Russian background file? How is that done?

Ready to go, just do the readme and thank Berserker.

viewtopic.php?t=6540

Take any pic from any folder and name it background and put it in the gui file to change load screen.

I also changed out some of the campaign backgrounds, just put your choice in the campaign folder of your choice, DE, DU, GB, whatever.

I need to add that screen fix to the guide.

I am really glad it worked for you, I have only got feedback from you and a few others on the thread.

Oh yeah, I use 093.

Thanks Double_Ugly, I think my process will soon sink into oblivion.
It gets some hits but only one guy reported success in the actual thread so, either it is not working or it is too long to bother with for those who look at it.

I will not bump it, and the further down the page the fewer people notice it so it will disappear or not based on user feedback.

I had contacted an admin when I posted the first version and to my knowledge the PM was never read, I never got a response if it was.

Given the fact that it is not even worth a reply, pro or con, I guess it is not up to AAA standards.

Hi Forager - I looked at the Read-Me for the Russian language load screen but I don't have a filelist.txt anywhere?

I must be looking in the wrong spot(s)?

It should be in the main game folder.

Mine is after the fb_sound.SFS

Forager..

.I don't understand why your explanation on "how-to" doesn't just replace that stickey beginners guide.
That guide is totally worthless for a person new to this mod installation process.

Just my humble (don't know nothen) opinion of course.

I used the stickey beginners guide three or four times and never did get things to work well.
When things are simple and to the point (like your explanation) then it is hard to not get it right.

Keep bumping it. People are in need and you really do not know how many people just read it, and things work, so they never say anything..They just go play the game..
