@ Panzer Hey Thanks for the Info and Involvment! Most of that Info is "Scene Setting" for this campaign, what I mean by that is that most of that Info seems to be great data about the land and naval battles for Guadalcanal. This Campaign begins several months after Guadalcanal is secured.

I loved this, it was watched by pilots getting the F4U-1 for the first time, much like VMF-213. I'm sure they saw this film at some point in time.

Nice movie!
I think the Corsair is a beauty, but she is too hard to fly for me..
As I saw in the movie not only in the sim but in real as well.

This guy had some balls to puposely stall his aircraft! Confusedhock:

I usually fly F4F or F6F's in the Pacific. They are much easier to handle and powerful enough (especially the F6F) to win the average dogfight.

How is the campaign coming along? (sorry: had to ask!)

No Problem as of Now I have 7 of 34 complete, and I have to Re-do a Template for the second half of the Campaign as it moves along from the 12-43 to the 7-43 Slot Map.

That Seventh mission is very famous and Dan made a point to tell me this mission should be in this campaign, but it took me about 20 hours to get right!

There is a Photo that was taken after this mission that is on the Background you will get for this campaign. The Background is posted at the begining of this topic. The Photo is of an F4U, Three Pilots, and the american flag. The Pilots are Major Payton, and Lts. Vedder, and Peck.

Lt. Eckart didn't make it home and the pilots left that empty space for him in the photo.

For Fun, here is PART of the REAL After Action report from that mission. The whole thing is about 5 pages, but thats because each pilot gives a testimony on top of the summary of action. (And yes the missions I'm making follow the after action reports to the letter, which is the reason this one gave me so much trouble.)

Many congratulations dad!

The more you tell me, the more I look forward playing this campaign!
But don't let me rush you: good things take time. 8)
I tried several times to build a campaign myself, but I find it difficult after 10 missions.. I fly and refly; like you I always try to get it as accurate as possible though there are many limitations (try to sneak up on an AI plane for instance) and by the time I got it right I have flown the mission so many times it gets boring.. maybe I'll pickup one of my oldies: a historical Yorktown campaign. I went so far to get the Japanese carriers and escorts make evading actions in the battle of the Coral Sea at just the right time; that took me forever! Sad
Do you use mission mate, QMT or other tools?
I find QMT very helpful: especially with bomber formations. In FMB I make one flight and in QMB I copy the flight as many times as needed. I can even define the height and distance between each squadron.

After reading your briefing I decided to start practicing the Corsair..
Looks like I'll need it! Big Grin

I'm greatly looking forward to this. I've been practing flying the F4U in the QMB Slot missions for a couple of weeks now, and I think it's a fantastic plane. I don't find it alll that difficult to fly, or to land, despite my initial fears. I'd certainly take it over an F4F.

Thanks for all the historical background, too. I've been enjoying this thread.

Panzer: The Yorktown Campaign Sounds Great, and Yes I use QMT, however be VERY careful with QMT and bomber formations, if you don't space them right, and/or playtest them you will find they sometimes tend to drift into each other. Use 30m Distance, 30m Height to prevent that, but check it.

Dleg: I saw your name in the index that you had posted in this thread, and my poor eyes read Oleg and my heart about stopped! LOL. Once I got used to the F4U i started flying it almost like an extention of myself, I can be abusive to the plane and get some great manuves our of her, especially with the use of trim in a turn to get that added little bit needed to get the bullets on the target. (Which F4U-1 Pilots did!) You just have to get good at learning when she stalls, I will see it and go through this 10 times in every mission, the left wing starts to drop fast, and i quickly cut a little rudder, and *shrug* I dont even notice it now. Love this Hog!

I've got a Buddy from my squadron, and one of my friends at home helping with Template 2 and missions, we want to feed the hunger for Slot Campaigns as fast as we can while still keeping the quality very good!

I'll get some screenshots out soon!

Sounds great! Smile

I found that QMT refused to copy flights if I have a mission with both a *.ru.properties and a *.properties file. And everytime I edit a mission in the FMB it still makes a *.ru.properties file although the game will read the *.properties file..

@Dleg: I also read your name as Oleg first! Though I though you were joking.
Glad your enjoying the thread: so am I!

Time to get some practice in the F4U now! 8)

Sorry for the scare! I had no intention of my screen name looking like Oleg, but I see now how it looks... It's just a contraction of a nickname I am frequently referred to as.

I'm not going to do but one more of these after this one, maybe one of the Huge flights from Guadalcanal to Kahili, I don't want to give away too much of the experiance, but at the same time It's lame to get all excited about the Slot and then to make you all wait for months to play on this campaign.

I am going to release to Single Mission the 7th Mission of this campaign which is listed above on this page of this thread.

I will also release the After-Action report from said mission, all 10 pages of such in its original form as Jpegs on the Single Mission Thread. Its a great read, and you will be able to compare what was to what is in the il-2 mission.

Look for it tonight, (CST)

EDIT, Great Corsair Campaign: By the Way, Since some of you are talking about practicing in a Corsair, I have a suggestion, well more a shamless plug for a great Campaign Developer. I Strongly Suggest that you download and Fly PhilK's Hell in the Pacific Series, which includes Several seperate campaigns. Here is one of them in particular.

Here is something I've been thinking about,

Would the Community prefer that I release this campaign in its three distinctive Chapters Or wait until this fall when it's all complete and release it as a whole.

Marine Squadrons would spend a month or two at Cactus in 1943, then they would be pulled off the line and sent to Australia for a month, before returning to the line. They called these Tours with in a campaign.

The Total Campaign is 34 missions, the first chapter is 13 Missions (its almost done), the Second chapter is 12 missions, and the final chapter is 9 missions.

The first chapter is preparation for the invasion of the New Georgia Group,
The second chapter is the actual invasions of New Georgia,
The third chapter is the preparation for the invasion of Vella Lavella, as you operate from Munda.

IF the community overwhelmingly asks that I release this in chapters I will, I will also have it set up so that once you play the last mission in any given chapter it will not let IL-2 Close the Campaign as finished. I've got a trick that will keep that from happening, so all you will have to do is add Chapter 2 to your mission list once it's released.

Let Me know What you Think Folks, Its Up to You!!!

I vote for Episode One. I'm willing to pay for it if it's necessary.
