FW190F-9 Panzerblitz?
#1

Is it possible for someone to model the FW190A with rockets?

I can help gather reference material for this aircraft if anyone is interested...

Initial F9 Panzerblitz was basically an A-9(built side by side on assembly line) with a bomb rack for carrying heavier bombs, and with wing racks to carry 6 more powerful R4M missiles on each wing.

During the latter part of 1944, air to ground rockets called 'Panzerblitz 1' were developed. The mounting of these were finalized at 8 per wing and replaced the outer bomb racks. The Panzerblitz 1 was in fact the mating of an R4M rocket with the 80mm mortar grenade. Though devastating against soft targets, they were only able to penetrate about 3 1/2 inches of armor. Some of this problem was overcome by firing the missiles off in pairs, but a larger weapon was needed and later developed. Those Fw-190F-9s carrying the Panzerblitz rocket were designated Fw-190F-9/Pb1 and served on all of the shrinking fronts until the end of the war.

Early Panzerblitz racks - these appear to be for the standard R4M like those used on Me262. Later PbI and PbII had larger warheads attached:

Photo of the three types of rockets used, R4M, and then the Panzerblits I and II with the larger warheads:

This is something we've needed for a looong long time.

I think this could perhaps be started by making a clone of the F8 3d model, using the A9 prop (IIRC it's bigger blades) to get an F9. As for rockets, the 262's R4M's used to fire off in pairs, perhaps we could work from those and alter them as needed to get the right effect.

While we're at it, I hope we see a drop-tank only load, as it seems some F's carried a drop tank and served as fighters late in the war.

Some 190Fs even flew missions with the entire ETC rack removed, in clean fighter configuration.

At least one air to ground rocket loadout on entire axis side is really essential. Gringo, your interest in realising the project is really appreciated. Keep us updated if you continue with work on this project.

Cheers to JG54! I'll buy you a beer sometime or something, eh?

As a stop-gap measure, I'd like to point out that, though not really realistic, the 262's Panzerblitz packs seem to KO tanks, even if only one cause you only get one pass...I seem to recall Panzerblitz rockets in EAW firing all at once. Even this (With maybe a nice big bomb on centerline...) would be better than what Oleg gave us! But I remain confident you'll figure out how to develop a realistic Panzerblitz system given a little time. Big Grin
