Throttle quad. for 2+ engines and prop pitches
#1

I originally started this thread with a different title, and intent. Since then I have refined my idea, and edited my first post and gave the thread a bump after realizing this could indeed be very cool for people wanting more control of a 4 engine bomber.

I am going to try making this mod myself then. I D/L'd some of the tools for a start, and have the Java development kit going. I can code html fine-- but writing Java will be totally new. Any advice any of you may have would be most welcome and appreciated.

Here is my Use Case. I have this as my design document until I come up with more:
User shall have ability to control up to four engine throttles and four prop pitches in IL-2/1946. This ability will be accomplished by using a modification file set that will reside in Program_root/MODS.

Functionality will be as follows: User starts IL-2, navigates to Hardware Setup/Input/HOTAS Control. There user will have ability to set up to four USB controllers with axis to each of the Power and Prop Pitch positions.

Compatible USB controllers with axis may be considered mouse wheels, throttle control on up to four different USB joysticks, USB throttle quadrants of any manufacture.

Now how many of you might be interested in something like this? I have no idea of how long it will take me, or even if I can do it- all I know is I can't wait for someone else to do it.

=============================================Original first post
Hi there- I know in stock IL-2 if you have a throttle quadrant, currently it is not possible to control 2 or 4 engine planes on separate axis. There's a gent over at the Ubi boards who came up with some software to do such a thing, but you cannot use it online.

I was wondering if anyone had taken a stab at such a mod here? I did a search and found nothing, so maybe I am the first to post the idea here- I don't know.

What I have always thought would be pretty cool to control 2 engines independently, and take full advantage of the P-38's twin engine design making it into a much more effective turner. If someone were able to do this, I'd go out and get a second throttle quadrant for bomber flying Smile

Any thoughts or feedback on this idea?

Thanks guys- I've been loving your work 8) It may require more tinkering than your regular sim, but for me anyway it's well worth it!

Cheers

Ah well thats a bugger! I was saving up for one of those CH products quadrants specifically for use in IL2! Cry

Yeah I have one of those Saiteks and was really looking forward to it, but then Sad

Ah well- now I got one axis for flaps, prop pitch & throttle, as well as the little buttons for trim. But it'd be cool for multi engines 8)

The java app that feeds devicelink information (I think it is just called "Throttle") should work fine online - it is only information output from the game that is disabled for online, not information input into the game...

Ah Okay then- Judge, or anyone else- is it possible to use Devicelink throttles online or LANs? I had followed that thread about Throttle over at the zoo and it was said a few times that the Gentleman's program could not be used in the desired manner of those who flew online.

Just looking for confirmation/clarification.

Thanks

same here... Sad
I read that thread on Ubi few months ago and put CH thing in my budget sheet, purchase was planned later this year... specifically to show those Bf-109G6/10/14/K ON-line how P-38 can beat em up in close fight...
now my hopes are destroyed...my world is falling apart... my P-38 stays idle in hangar...
ah what a Friday...

Ah- OK then, for the other part of my inquiry, will it work (or anything work with) the Saitek Quad?

Anyone try that, or know if it works?

I'd tried contacting the original developer, but thought maybe someone had tried it or knows more about it here.

If I remember correctly there is a different version of the program for different setups ie. CH,Saitek ect.

In the mentioned thread or a thread similar to it, there were request for different throttle setups. I specifically asked if it was possible for a setup for the Avi8tor Stick and he did produce such a beast.

Haven't bought the program so as to wether it works on-line or just off-line no idea.

If it worked on-line wouldn't that be considered a mod and only allowed in a modded server??

On line I stick to stock 4.08 rooms only.

I bought the Throttle program and use it on and off-line with my Saitek Aviator...no problems

Well I hadn't any luck trying to contact the developer thus far. It's too bad that the applet has to be redone for any model. That will exclude any new piece of gear that comes down the pike like it effectively has for the Saitek quad, which was $50 cheaper than the CH product.

I don't know, but might imagine that with all that can be done with the app now, that it would not be overly difficult to add slots to the HOTAS section for Throttle_2, Throttle_3 and Throttle_4. That way, a person could even have 4 old joysticks hooked up and effectively control a 4 engine craft if they wished.

Any thoughts on this idea?

My next posts on this subject will be in the MODS Beta section when I get something.

Wish me luck.

Good luck Triad!
Although I have a standard HOTAS, I support your idea!
