P-39N-1 Cockpit Repaint 09/08/08
#1

This is version 3 of my P-39N-1 cockpit repaint. The original version was moved to the cockpit repaint section but was somehow lost last week. This version has a few more refinements.

Unfortunately, it's still a low res pit but MAHA is working on a P-39 makeover including some cockpit work. This P-39N-1 cockpit is also used by the P-400, p-39D-1 & P-39D-2.

Fantastic work Catahoulak9!!! This repaint is super!

I remember seeing this a few weeks back while at work and couldn't wait to rush home and d/l it...you could imagine my horror when I couldn't find it again!!

Thanks a million for popping it back up here! Now I'm off to fly a scramble mission from Guadalcanal! 8)

Nice work Catahoulak,

What did you have in mind for the gunsight?

My thoughts-
The projection column for the existing sight is not too bad and is probably salvagable.

The reflector glass is very subpar and should be replaced.

The proportions of this N3? sight seem a bit off to me, it seems too narrow. But I don't have any data to back this up or it might be an illusion. It would be possible to reproportion the sight if that was found to be necessary.

I am fairly competent at importing sights from other aircraft, so that is another possible way to go.

I would be glad to chip in on this project if needed.

I think the very low resolution is the worst part.

Also, the reflector glass is terrible and I agree with you, seems to be proportioned wrong. This may be caused by the perspective problem unique to this gunsight. It looks like the pilot is positioned very high over the sight and can see down on top of the lens.

I don't think the sight needs to be repositioned as much as just replaced with a more conventional rendering. Unfortunately I don't know how to do that. My skills are limited to photoshop only.

MAHA was doing some work on the P-39. Maybe he has some ideas on this.

I just posted the final version 4 at the top of this thread. I tweeked some colors to blend better, refined the floors, doors, gunsight and radio. I'll send it in to Mr Jolly in a few days and get it out of WIP.

Sir, i just love your repaint but have a little issue; i fly the soviet cobras and would love to keep my standard reticle (it is a modded one anyway).

Is it possible to keep the one i have by just removing/adding some fle? if not, would it be easy or a hard job to have the standard reticle?

Thank you!

Glad you like the repaint.

Getting rid of the reticle and reverting back to the original is easy. For the P-39N-1 just go to P-39N-1_Cockpit_Repaint_v4 (or whatever the name of the folder version you installed) \3do\Cockpit\P-39N-1. Look for these three files and delete them.

Reticle.tga
Reticle2.tga
Reticle.mat

That should retore the original reticles for all the P-39Ns Do the same for the P-39Q-10 cockpit to restore all the P-39Qs also.

Also, I have a "bright" reticle for the P-39 series in my Reticles_RU_MOD.
