High level bombing class. New Manual released.

I enjoyed bomber night very much and even tho I couldn't get off the ground I do feel I learned something. Bombers are definitely a different beast from fighters. And hey I did manage to get off the ground on my own. I started on the nice runways till I could do it there then I tried on some of the grass ones. I also adjusted my joystick sensitivity which I think helped the most I cant wait till next week so I can actually get up in the air with all of you and drop some bombs Big Grin

I'm not going to post the IP on a public forum, as it's my own personal IP, and this is pretty much up 24/7 apart from the occasional reboots due to windows updates... I'm working on getting a dedicated server set up in the very foreseeable future.

I've sent you the IP via PM, please feel free to forward it to the guys that you fly with you on a regular basis.

A10, your PM inbox is full, so I can't send you the details, I've forwarded them to IVY and IRON instead...

Clean up your PM's for god's sake Tongue

I will do what I can to make it this week. I love flying the bombers, but am not that great in formation flying and even worse at using the bombsites. I usally do my best guess ion when to drop my bombs.

I as well can host a server if needed depending on the number of pilots who usually do this. How many have you had at one time so far?

We had about 15 guys last time with all levels of experience. It turned out to be a real success because after a couple long flights to practice formation we went over to AAA and bombed in a 7 ship formation, no one collided and I was very impressed. This week we will work on the bomb sight itself and see how that goes.

For those of us who either missed last week, or may miss upcoming events, will there be any time to go over what was covered in the previous class? I ask because I am not real good at formation flying.

To get the info you need, all you have to do is show up.

There's no strict lesson plan or any particular agenda we're running each day, we're always happy to help.

To fly well in formation you need to trim out your plane well, as that helps yous speed consistency by not having to waste energy on moving the control surfaces all the time to correct and eases the pressure on yourself, giving you more time to focus on holding the actual position in formation. The other requirement is practice, practice, practice...

For those that need running at more sensible European times, you can send me a PM, and if there's enough interest I could host something a bit earlier saturday night.

I'll set up a precision bombing area on some map, with singular targets to practice precision bombing.

I'll also set up with a figher base mid route so that if need be we can get someone to intercept halfway there or on the reciprocal track.

EDIT: Everyone should ensure that they have the Mosquito mk XVI installed, and make sure it's the latest version. I had the latest version last time, but noone could see my flares.
Latest version at time of post is 1,7: (The link is inoperative)

OI, suggest you watch the B-17 video at http://www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com/main.html

In the middle of the film they show a cartoon-like explanation for how the B-17 was built for a 3-point takeoff. Been using that technique for years.

Am very interested also (as my signature picture shows).

Will you make available for downloading the bombing map so we can do some practice off-line ?

Thank you ArticViper.

I couldn't make this past Saturday's meet due to the storm in Virginia that knocked all power out.

I do have the bomb bay door mod and latest Mossie

All we really did was practice formation, which turned out to be very successful for we had 8 bombers in formation that night on the AAA server, 3 were shot down but no one collided! : ). So if your good at formation all you really missed was some fun formation flying.

I'll throw something together for download, sure.

The formation could have been bigger, but we had 3 dedicated fighters to the group, as anything else would have been suicide Wink

Now, I'm going to be AWOL until friday, so I'll check back here by then.

Quote:it was fun shooting the B17s down, tought targets
You guys did a great job on your formation and trying to pack together for better defense :!:

You did get a few shots in, but you ran like a chicken when the fighter cover, AKA me came to hunt you down... I do believe I did hit you once without any critical hits though. Did it scare you?

ArcticViper Wrote:I heard that all the guys got banned from that TS yesterday for swearing??... is that true?

PC Doc just came in and said to tone down the language a bit and to consider it a warning, then left. The next thing is we are all kicked off channel and banned...regardless of who was talking, swearing or otherwise. Good to see the whole respect thing is alive and well and that some admins still try and get to the bottom of problems without making rash decisions.

Once crucial fact to this, the Japs didn't have "wonderwoman view" or open pit as some call it. Another crucial fact is, the japs couldn't just "respawn" and come back up and get them using the big Red arrows as target indicators, oh and the distance would also have to be judged individually, instead of displayed at a handy location floating next to the plane with "live update" as they'd approach

Thanks for sharing that story, didin't know that one! Confusedhock:

FMB can be a mouthfull the first few times, but it's generally quite easy to use, once you overcome the poor instructions given, and the strange way everything has to be done in there.

as for you aj906, I don't quite understand what you mean... I'm not an admin there, and I'm baffeled by the fact that they'd ban people for swearing on TS. I see TS as the refuge for swearing instead of the chatbar, because children might be watching and most people have the common sense to use headsets when on Teamspeak, thus protecting the young ones
I've encountered strange bans in the past, and people do make rash and ungrounded decisions and also mistakes, I'm sure it's all going to work out allright in the end, it usually does...
