[WIP] Me 264V-1
#1

Ok guys, i'm building this huge LW baby so the blue bomber pilots can have some fun flying "heavies".

That's an Me 264 V-3 powered with four BMW801G engines.

This baby was supposed to bomb New York. For that she needed a huge amount of fuel, needing external drop tanks. The overweight in takeoff made the RATO system mandatory and she also had an auxiliary landing gear (that would be jettisoned just after take off) for overweight situations.

I'm using a fairly good 3 plan view of this AC and i've modeled the engines after one Ju188E (that had the same engine configuration, but using only 2) blueprint because it was more detailed in the engine areas.

Some pics:

As you can see she has, so far, 16000 polys. That's because i've redone her, the first version had some 45000 Confusedhock: I think that 16000 is fairly good for a 4 engined AC, perhaps experts could calirify that.

I would really love to see this baby in the game. But i'm not a pro and i will surely need some help from the 3D gurus. My main problem is: How the hell you guys make the glass parts? I've tried a lot of things with no success so far.

I really hope that you people can help me with this Whale.

Cheers!

I also have a question for you, do you also have a plan for Me 264 V1/V2 and 6M version? If you are, then I can research and find more reference materials, especially color profiles for you.

This is very exciting projects you are doing for Il-2 1946!

I don't think that the V1 or V2 versions are needed, the V3 is the closest to a possible serial production Aircraft.

About the 6M version, i don't know. Modeling is really hard, if we manage to finish this one we could think about the 6M version.

Alight I understand more about your goal and wishes for Me 264. With some of my free time, I will do what I can do to assign you with Me 264 V3 project. And after you create Me 264, if you ever still consider about doing 6M, you could tweak the existing Me 264 for that. And oh yeah, I labelled Me 264 as WIP with your name at my aircraft list.

However, I look foward to see how your Me 264 V3 develop so far!

Hi,

I am not an expert, but I gather that the 3D model needs to be segmented in specific ways (fuselage in three sections, etc).

You might want to get in contact with some other aircraft modders to get their input on the modelling 'rules' for IL-2...

You're right, but i prefer to model big pieces together and then split the pieces as needed. Just as i did with the wings.

No.
The Oleg's stock notes are 3500 polygons maximum for twin and more engined aircrafts.
Ours are ~5000 polygons, but not even higher then that, otherwise bad things will happen.
So,an 3000 stock OM modeled a/c,when finnished is ~50k polygons with all stuff in it.The materials,the mapping,LOD,Demage,Shadow,Hooks,etc.
So it's ~16.6 times the main LOD of the plane. And you'll open this entire a/c in 3D max with only 8 fps,so can you imagine what will happen 16k polygonned a/c?...
16000x16.6=265600 polygons. Confusedhock:
So you better reduce this baby to 5k.
You'll have to sacrifice the quallity in order to see this plane ingame.
