British roundels
#1

I did a search on the topic, but couldn't find anything concrete.

Many of the early Spits and Hurricanes seem to have incorrect roundels. The Spit MK1 and MKVb have type C1 on the sides and the bottoms of the wings. Shouldn't they have type A1 on the sides and type A on the bottons of the wings?
The Hurricane MK1 has type A roundels all over. The MKIIB has type A on the sides and the bottoms of the wings. The MKIIC has type A1 on the sides and bottoms of wings. The MKIID is a 1942 aircraft, so it might be correct.

Is there any way that the default roundels can be corrected?? I realize that I can always use skins to solve this problem, but you then have the skins squadron markings.

What I did is change the default skins to one that had the correct Roundels and now I have no problems with markings on

That would work, but how do you do that?

Thanks.

Try vpmedia's skinmod. I've changed all the defaults to generic skins with markings only then I use Mat Manager for the squadron codes.

Thanks everybody, I will dig into these options this week and see what seems easiest.

All of these mods make the sim so much better. So much better that I notice little things like incorrect roundels.

I got the skinmod to work, but it didn't do exactly what I wanted to it to do. As soon as I turned the "markings" back on, the type "A" roundels came back. Is there any way to change the side roundels to type A1, when the "marking" are on. This would allow the use of the squadron codes.

Ranwers link will allow you to do that. I suggest you try it.

This was going to be my next step,
I was doing some checking today, and saw some photos of BOF Hurricanes with Type "A" roundels on the sides and some later 1941 Hurricanes with type A1 on the bottom of the wings.
I think that my brain is going to explode.

I'll work on the above link.

~S~GBrutus,
That was a great suggestion, and I have started switching my default skins for RAF birds over to ones with roundels only, using vp_media's SKINMOD/MAT Manager with roundels off.

The only bird I'm having problems with is the Mosquito Mk IV. Apparently selecting another default skin for this bird does not work with vp_media's SKINMOD; anyone noticed this/come up with a workaround?

Hi Cheech,

I made a copy of the Mosquito_B_MkIV(Multi) folder and renamed it to Mosquito_B_MkIV(GB). Then I created another folder within the Mosquito folder and named it 'Summer'. I dropped the relevant tga files into the Summer folder and the new skin showed up fine. Give this a try mate.

I've finally got my Mat Manager v 2.36 to work, and it seems to have solved the roundel problem for early Hurricanes and Spits.
