I think we should get together more then once a week due to other things going on. What is good for everyone? I can usually spare a few hours during the week.

I'm retired, so I'm good for almost anytime.

Well... I can't guarantee wednesday nights at all; but I can be very regular on saturday nights, as this event now has gone to a more U.S. friendly time of day...

I've got the hosting power, proven lag free with 24 players, so I don't see 30-40 being a major problem at all...

I've got a TS to use in case of a contingency with other teamspeaks (as we've seen in the past...)

And I'm currently building a practice map for this very purpose. Actually 2, but that's beside the point.

What needs doing:

A list of items that are vital to be a proficient bomberpilot, which each participant can fill out and send to us, so we don't spend time on practicing something that everyone is very good at, and focus more on the weaker points.

I can give an example of what I'd write here:

High level bombing (at more than 4000m): Proficient, I have demonstrated hits broadside on a battleship from 27.000' on multiple occasions.

Low level bombing (less than 4000m): proficient and will hit the target most of the time, but not practiced much

Aerial gunnery from gunner positions: Acceptable, but could improve

Bombsight setup: I am comfortable with both the automatic bombsights and the manual drop bombsights.

Formation Flying: Fly mostly as leader and acceptable in full switch (full difficulty) navigation, Proficient on left wing, proficient on slot position, acceptable on right wing but could improve.

Now, if we had a form like that for each participant to fill out, we'd know before each time what we'll need to practice, as the skill level on the various pilots may vary. If one night there are very good pilots only, we would work on their weak points, if there were a few newer bomber pilots in the mix, the "better" pilots don't mind sharing their wisdom and teaching the newcomers... but that's just an idea anyway...

That is an excellent idea for most people have no trouble with formation. I'm not expecting more than a few people this evening, if you could set up your server for the evening that would be badass.

Okay, I see that the TS IP takes me to the Australasion Battle Group.

I hope that's the right one. I see A10 in the Mudmovers Room but don't know if that's really him or not.

We shall see.

Sorry for wednesday night, you caught me just as I was on my way to bed, the map is not quite finished yet, but it will be come saturday night. That way we'll have 2 maps with actual targets on them for practicing

I can indeed set up the server any day of the week, just drop me a PM on here or an email on my email addy... I'll need a 2 hour notice though, as I might be doing other things that could interfere with that, such as my online dynamic campaign, and that'll give me time to finalise the maps and/or fine tune them to the particular needs that night.

I've taken some recon photos of the area we need to attack on saturday and will post them here as soon as time permits me to.

Here's a leak: The map I'm working on is the Normandy map, we'll be attacking a factory area.
I will have a target range set up for the pilots in need of more basic training, allowing for divebombing and high precision high level bombing utilising the game's big white target markers.

Make sure that you have the latest Mosquito mk XVI installed, as I will want to mark the target with flares. Saturday's event will be videoed and you can send me your tracks to get your own cockpit, view of the formation and actual damage shown in the vid as well. The video link will be posted in this thread as well as in the Screenshots, images & video section.

Cheers!

SERVER INFORMATION

SERVER IS RUNNING - NAME IS BOMBERNIGHT IN HYPERLOBBY

password: bombs

I might not be able to make it for tonight, but the server is now running.

SERVER BRIEF:

Welcome to Bomber night practice

Please take the time to read the briefing, it might be long, but then there can be no doubt as to what is going on.

The plane of choice for participants is the B-17G with 16x500lb bombs. It's up to {HVY}Squadron or ArcticViper to designate players to other aircraft. Unless otherwise instructed, you will fly the B-17G.
Please adhere to us, as we want this to be enjoyable for all of us, and take the flying a bit more seriously than the average dogfight server mess.

Do not use the Blue base unless instructed to, failing to comply with this will result in kick and possible exclusion from future bombernight events.

Target for today is the factory complex in Argentan (K2 Num 04 including the trainstation in that city.)
Note that the trainstation is very hard to spot, but nontheless a target.
The targets have the default 20 or 40 minute respawn time, so by the time you're en-route for the second run, they'll be alive again.

If you have taken damage and need to ditch, you'll have to attempt to make it home and ditch behind our lines, which are closing in on Carentan.

Directly north of St. Lo, 18 kilometers or so there is a high precision target for high level bombing.
The northern target is 400m x 400m the middle target is 200m x 200m and the smallest is 100m x 100m. All the targets have a high presision white slab in the centre which is 20m x 20m. There is a runway next to these targets, so that one player can land and evaluate the success of the individual bombers if neccesary.

Recon photos have been posted in the announcements section, under "high level bombing class" on http://allaircraftsimulations.com

ACHTUNG - The only area with flak (88mm) is the city of Caen. It's done for damaged formation flying practice (if and when applicable)

Targets for strafing were built in in an earlier beta, but removed again, as this is a high level bombing class.

Suggestions, ideas, recommendations and/or general criticism is welcome, and is to be sent to as a PM to ArcticViper on http://allaircraftsimulations.com

Thank you for participating in bombernight/high level bombing class.

On behalf of Nipper's Crew & {HVY}Squadron

ArcticViper - 29/07-2008
