Its also more realistic than pitch darkness ironically enough. Sure, if you're underneath a cloud and there's no lighting, things get pretty black. I have flown at night and it got very spooky taking off and landing knowing there was high ground either side of you. Moonlight however is a life-saver. Human eyes can adjust to very limited light sources and its suprising how well you see (at least in general terms) on moonlit nights, especially since if you're above cloud the chances of this sort of visibility are much increased. Actually, I do agree, a 'darkness' option would be realistic, but since the AI can see you in the dark without any trouble whatsoever, surely you want the same advantage?

When I was a youth and spent a lot of time outdoors at night (let's not go into why I was outside at night) my eyes became very accustomed to the relative lack of light. I could see quite well on all but the darkest of nights and a full moon was almost like daylight to me. The aging process has not been kind to my eyesight and I don't have that sort of visual acuity or sensitivity these days.

if you are on a modded map...then open the load.ini file in the MODS/MAPMODS/maps/xxx folder

you will see that the month is usually set to month = 7

[WORLDPOS]
CAMOUFLAGE = SUMMER
MONTH=7
DECLIN = 10
PRESSURE = 745
TEMPERATURE = 32

try changing that to 11 or 12

I once wrote a mission for a "Wilde Sau" scenario. Except for the fact that all those big and medium British night bombers were missing - Lancaster, Stirling, Wellington, etc (which will hopefully change soon, thanks to everybody involved). This worked quite well.

Except for two things. One unfortunately, I guess, I'll have to live with: that the AI can see me coming. I wished there would be a chance element involved, a probability they'd detect me - or not...
The other one is the position lamps. It doesn't really make sense to have night bombers above enemy territory with their lamps on, right? It also takes away the fun to search for them. But I couldn't find any possibility to swich off the position lights.

Does anybody know a function how to switch off the lights, and if there isn't any in the regular game - is there any mod available, or anybody working on it?
