Runway plate dimensions?
#1

I want to replicate known runway length & width when constructing a new airfield. eg. the runway is 4,000' x 360' Does anyone know the dimensions of the runway plates? Alternatively, is there a method for fairly accurately determining relatively small-scale distance in maps?

1) Runway plates are 40x40 meters. Taxiway plates are 20x40 meters.
2) In the map FMB use "snap" set to 40.0. Add plates and drag into position.
3) Design your runways etc. E-W and drag using Alt-left mouse to select all runway plates, rotate using the keypad with "rotate objects" selected to set the desired runway heading.
4) Alt-left mouse + Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V can be used to quickly place a runway.
5) Use "unselect all" to deselect objects marked in red.

Note: Before placing runways/taxiways etc. make sure the ground is completely level. Use the Object|height|peek/fill tool to do this OR make sure the pixels in area you'll be putting the elements on have the same value in your map_h.tga file. Failure to do this will result in "floating/submerged" plates and a very bumpy ride during take off/landing Smile

Slick trick: Use Blank plates on a grass tiled area to build a grass field strip. 8)

Hope this helps (and provides inspiration for further experimentation) ...
