How to Get Rid of the Blur!
#1

Hello peeps!

I've had the most difficult time convert skins in .tga format to .bmp for use as any other skin...

To start, I downloaded a nice little program called 36-image converter off the net (it's free and not a trial version - no watermarks! :o ), and that gets the job done. To convert the entire picture, which is quite large, I must reduce it to 400x400 pixels.

Once it is in .bmp format, I move it over to Paint Shop Pro 9, move it back up to 1024x1024, make it 8-bit, with 70dpi resolution.

I finally got the skins to run in the game, yet, as always, there is a problem. They all come out looking rather shoddy and pixelly. This is to be expected with the major dimensions change. I messed around with the dpi settings, but it doesn't help in the least.

So, how can I get the image quality back to normal?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Find the BRIGHT plugin - either as a stand-alone batch file or a Photoshop Plugin.

Converts RGB .bmp into indexed .bmp

I'm curious though - why are your skins in TGA format anyway? Are they default skins? In which case, why do you need them as a bmp as well?

Thanks, I'll give that a try when I find some time...
Bright is meant to remove any distortion like that, correct?

Oh, and it seems weird, but they are the default skins!
I just don't want new defaults, but I picked a few of them out that would do as new skins by themselves.

There's probably a much easier way to do this... Confusedhock:

Why aren't you loading a .TGA with Photoshop?

I can't understand the need of a previous converter.

Paint Shop Pro actually sucks!

I use the free program GIMP. Ive had no trouble at all with making skins for IL2.

Thanks for the help!

I figured it out by messing around with PSP for around 5 minutes (just like everything else learned with these programs  ).

All I did was add some blur (the opposite of what I wanted!) to the skin, and that cleared up any crappy textures.

A quick fix... but it works.
