Does the prder of objects in Static.ini matter?

Depending on which order you install new objects and enter their references in static.ini the number allocated to them in FMB Mission Editor will vary. Does this matter?

It might be useful in the longer term for mission builders for the object order to be standardised and for "official" issues of the static.ini to be made so Object Lists, in the style of Posimo's Object Lists for IL-2 and others, can be issued, with each object having a fixed number.

It doesn't seem to cause any problem for the static.ini to list objects which you have not yet installed. They just appear blank in the FMB Mission Editor window.

Only name matters in the static.ini - thank God. It'd be pure chaos otherwise.

My static.ini looks like no one elses in that I put the objects I use most close to the top and in the order I build missions. I build airfields first using the largest and first objects placed like the revetments and blast pens. Next the maintenance objects - fuel, hangars etc., then control towers, living quarters, and ancillary buildings.

Once this is complete I then move off the airbase to trees, factories, and then towns.

I've raised over 150 men to various heights to place on control tower platforms, planes, scaffolds, and piers. These men are all at the bottom of the static.ini so it's easy to find them.

I find there's an awful lot of stuff I never use and this all resides in the middle portion of the list.

It took me over two weeks to sort out the list which evolves as more objects are added - CanonUks objects, LAL-Rones hangars etc. As the new objects are added it's faster now to sort them out and place them.

I don't think there's much merit in trying to standardie on one list - my logic is going to differ from yours and others and what I may find useful you might find useless. I think it would be best to maybe try standardizing the names of the objects and use those names instead of object numbers.

Help!!

How do I edit my last message? It's too long to fit and a bunch is missing.

How would I go about giving the entire file to you - say through a file sharing site? If you let me know please don't leave out any steps - assume I know nothing (which is no stretch, beleive me!).

You can click on edit and crop back to a good break point, then post the rest separately.

Your static.ini is exactly what I had in mind for a standard format.

All similar objects grouped together.
This is a similar approach to that taken by Porsimo in his "Objects Lists for 4.08"

I suppose the group headings in your static.ini now appear in FMB Map Editor mode, do they?

All we need to agree are standard headings.

I don't have FMB Map Editor mode - just plain old FMB.

Looking at your, or rather Porsimo's, subject classifications, I see they are alphabetized. Mine are more organic and, since I'm a fair-weather flier, all the winter stuff is in the middle of the list, although clumped together roughly in the same order as the other stuff above it. If you go through my list you'll see what I mean.

Something I should tell all of you:

If you use my static.ini and put the humans in, there are triggers to the humans at various heights. This lets you put an object down and use the up arrow key to get to a human that is at the right altitude for that object. Once you've placed the human, you just point to the object you put down before the human, click on it, and continue scrolling through the objects at the top of the list.

An example: Go to the Control Towers section and place a control tower on the ground. Go to 3d mode and use the up arrow key to scroll through the towers. You'll come to a human that will be at the height to stand on a platform of that tower. Hit 'Insert' and another human appears. hit 'Delete' to delete the last human you put down and now you're at the bottom of the list and can get to all the humans that are there. When you've finished populating the tower, insert one last human, move it nearest the centre of the tower and hit 'Delete' to get back to that part of the list that is the control towers.
