Modeling questions
#1

so i have been here a week now, and already i have read some interesting posts. my aim here is now to get some more planes added.
I am currently updating the A6M models for new slots as this seems to be the only way it will be possible to get the required changes done.
My first project is the A6M3 (Navy Type 0 Carrier Fighter Model 32), adding a hook and clipping the wings making the dive and roll rate higher to start with.
Then the A6M5 versions with added CO2 extinguisher's , 2x 7.7mm Type 97 machine guns w/500rpg and 2x 20mm Type 99 Model 1 Mark 3 cannon w/100rpg

i have found by stripping down the TB3 that the fire extinguisher is actually a small animated square placed within the engine model.
So in theory, does this mean that i can place the same animation to the wings and this will have the same effect?
and as the java will need programming for this to work, when the models have been completed will the guys here be able to do the required programming as necessary bearing in mind that the C variant was automatic ?

also, the fuel tank in the A6M2 was situated behind the engine meaning that the wings did not catch fire as they do in the game, is there any way this can be fixed ? i am not aware how the fire is represented within the model and wonder if it is created within the java programming?

thanks

This small animated square, is called a Dummy Object, which represents the location of the hook for the Extinguisher. This can be simply be added with text editing of the mesh, or by physically adding a dummy object for you to attach the hook, or rather physically add a hook in 3ds; but all this requires more than simply the hook placement on the mesh - as you've guessed, it does also require class files to be edited.

thanks, and would you or another modeler be able to edit the file as required?

I cannot unfortunately - too busy with everything else, lol, much too overbooked for the time being. I could say I could get to it, but with my current workload (both modding and RL) it just won't happen until mid 2009 at this rate... Don't worry, someone else will come along and pick up the slack with this.
