IL2-MAT Manager refuses to work
#1

Yo, i've had troubles with MAT Manager refusing to work for me; it needed IL2.exe to run and my version of IL2 used il2fb.exe to run (as did the mod i used; sound mod 9.3 i think) I rectified the problem at other's advice by creating the required il2.exe file, but continuing to use the il2fb.exe file that actually worked. I should point out at this point that I use IL2 1946 patched to 4.09b1m.

Mat manager now opens and starts fine. I can choose whatever settings are needed. But when i select 'launch' to implement the changes I get the message:

Run-time error '91':
Object variable or With block variable not set.

Can anyone explain how to sort out the problem so's i can use the Mat Manager? I'd love to get it to work, as i always felt that the markings on aircraft were a little disappointing; especially the RAF roundels.

Thanks for the help!

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

You don't actually need to start the application for the Mat Manager changes to happen, here's what I did. Copy rename the file that it's looking for (il2.exe), apply the changes that you want in Mat Manager, save them, reload them and quit.

It'll copy the files anyway, then just start il-2 (which ever version you want using the switcher).

Make sense?

The first time I installed it I installed the Mat Manager program but not the mats. I got similar error messages. Make sure you installed all the markings too, and not just the program. If it took FOREVER to install then you did it right. If it did not take at least 30 min of installing and your PC chugging ... you don't have it installed right.

There will be a mod available soon that brings the data of the mat manager into the game without installing the mat manager. At the moment we try to contact the author of this program to ask for permission of using this awsome stuff.

But even this files are some years old and we need to polish them with our latest knowlege and techniques.

This is excellent news! I hope the author will allow us to use his program or mats. If not, we just have to go from scratch.

This is a breakthrough! Good news!

Usually a runtime error 91 Object blabity blah blah is a Java Runtime enviroment error
go here and update your Java runtime > http://www.java.com/en/

QMT and other programs have been know to have issues if your runtime enviroment ain't up to snuff,I imagen that Mat Manager is no different and needs a good runtime envir.

Hi folks,

I replied to your e-mail and you have my permission to continue work on IL2-MAT manager and/or use files provided with the program providing the following is adhered to:

1. That the program code isn't altered in any such way as to be put to malicious or fraudulent purposes.

2. That all credit is given in any documentation to all involded in developing, contributing to and testing the program as per my latest program documentation.

3. That no charge is ever made for the program or any of the files supplied with the program and, as such, it remains a free download.

Best wishes with your endevours

Here's the fix. I figured this out with Flat Spin Man over at M4T. There's a thread on it but I don't have time to find it right now.

1. copy the Il2fb.exe and rename il2.exe

There's 2 parts to a MAT Manager install. Extraction and installation.

2. When you run the installer, you should extract the files to NOT your "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" folder.
I made a folder in my documents called "MATfiles" and point the extraction there.

When the installation portion runs, the installer will put all of the rest of the files where they need to go, and after the installation, just open MAT manager from the desktop shortcut.

Browse Mat manager to your Il2 Sturmovik 1946 folder when prompted, and you should at this time be able to make your markings changes, and see those changes in the sim the next time you run it.

Edit: Aces, your stuff is phenomenal! I love the MAT manager program, and use in my campaigns and mission building all the time.

Cheers for the help guys. I've got the latest version of java and that's given me no luck so far. Now i'm installing IL2Matmanage (an extracting all files) to a completely different loaction. And, well, if that doesn't work, well... i'm going to go cry in a corner!

--EDIT--
AAGGH! Still no luck! I installed Matmanager 2.36 propperly, it took about 24 minutes... In a different location to IL2 1946.... Basically followed B50's advice. *sobs hysterically*

--EDITEDIT--
Right, so now Mat manager will load without the run time error. It takes 10-15minutes to upload the data, then starts up IL2.... aaaaaaand there's no change at all.

Here's where I'm at. The solution was figured out on XP, and should work just fine on a 4.08m install on an XP computer.

On my laptop (64bit vista) I'm also still having problems. The wing crosses on German aircraft as well as the Geschwader Commodore markings are changed. The Roundels on spitfires are changed, but no Staffel markings are changed (reduced in size) and no swastikas are visible.

So, I know that I am pointing MAT manger to the right place, but I don't know why it only grabs and enables selected files. If I come up with a complete solution, I will post it. Until then, it is still an open thread, and anybody with any suggestions: fire away.

P.S. I started to try to install MAT manager 2.33, and do each update to 2.36, but my 2.33 is corrupt, so I don't know yet if this will work.
