Bat. Files ??
#1

Hi when I install some of the self install mods at the end it always comes up with Windows cannot open this file .bat or bat.

It always gives you the choice to choose a program or search for one on the interweb. I know you can read them with note pad.

So how the heck does a person get bat files to work.(and wth are they??)

Some self extracting mods work if you install them manually and copy paste text to appropriate files, yet others will not, from reading the file with note pad some text has to removed and replaced with new. I am to dumb to know what has to be removed and replaced, I can do a few minor things on the computer but overall I am a total dumbazz when it comes to computer stuff.

For example I can get the new 109 to work installing it manually and cannot get the 190 to work by doing the same.

Well this is the thing using the selfinstallers as said in my earlier post is where the problem lies.

From my understanding is the bat or batch files are files that your supposed to be able to have or make choices from ...ie the ones in the games root folder like selecting TIR 6 degrees thingy and using the version switcher things. THEY DON'T work cause they are batch files.

The aircraft installer is supposed to ask you what version of sound mod you are using, again dependent on a batch file....again I never get asked what version of sound mod. again it's a batch file.

I even tried taking the batch file registry thingy from my son's computer and right clicking and selecting merge but still get diddly. From what I can gleem from reading techie forums on this stuff thats supposed to be the process. But again maybe I'm screwing things up somewheres along the line.

I have done several reinstalls of 1946 cleaned out all the leftovers in my drive and registry regarding IL2 1946, hell I even installed it twice more on my other drives and still the batch files no workie.

So from what i can see only a total reinstall of Windows ( But that ain't happening until something major blows up) will fix this unless some computer guru can figure this stuff out.

Try this;

Find a *.bat file and right click on it.

Next click on "Open With" in the context menu

( if you can not see or select "Open With" in that menu click on "Open" at the top of the menu. A window should pop up with "Windows cannot open this file:" at the bottom there is two options, click on "Select the program from a list" and then click "OK" )

Now a window will open up entitled "Open With" with a list of programs you can select.

At the bottom of this window is a "Browse..." button, click it.

This will bring another window up, use this to navigate to "C:\WINDOWS\system32"

In the system32 folder look for this program "cmd.exe", select it and click "Open".

Now click on "OK" at the bottom of the "Open With" window.

That's it, cmd will run the bat file you selected. Just close it and try running any other the AAA auto installers.

OK MadCat I gave this a try and this is what happened.

Selected at batch file in the games main folder"Switch 409 Mod On With 6DOF"
Right click and I only get the option Open. No open with and then select the program.

Upon right clicking and selecting open I get the error....." This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel"
And of course it has the red circle with an X through it,and an OK button at the bottom of the window, which just closes the error message box. If I knew how to show a screen shot I would but the error message is verbatim. I chose that file just because but they all tell me the same thing.

So thats where that stands thanks for the info.

Some thing seriously not right then :?

Go to this web site http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm & download "Batch File Association Fix" & "EXE File Association Fix"

Unzip them to your desktop & run (I would run "EXE File Association Fix first")

If you run into problems try following. (I would just like to add; see if "regedit.exe works first by clicking Start>Run & then type "regedit", click OK. If it dose then skip to the 2nd part of what he said)

JohnthePilot Wrote:Press Start>Run and type cmd in the box and press OK.
At the command prompt type cd c:\windows and press return.
Type copy regedit.exe regedit.com and press return.
type regedit.cm and press return. You should now be in the registry editor. On the menu bar click file and select export. Save the registry as registry.bak.

If Registry Editor opened successfully, navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ exefile \ shell \ open \ command.
Double-click the (Default) value in the right hand pane and delete the current value data, and then type:
"%1" %* exactly as shown including the quotes and asterisk.
Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe
In the right-hand pane, set (default) to exefile
Exit the Registry Editor.

If this still dose not fix then I think you going to have to format & reinstall windows :x

Good luck

"BATCHFILES...
==========

What are these files?
They allow the user to choose different setup options for IL2

How do I use them?
Double Left-Click on the relavent Batch file. Once the files have been copied, launch IL-2 1946 separately.

Do I have to open my IL-2 Folder to run the game?

No. Simply create shortcuts to the _Switch*.bat for the versions of IL-2 that you use and IL2fb.exe and place them on you desktop (or wherever they're convenient).

The following is an explanation of the Batch files included...

Version Switching Batch files
------------------------------

The six Switch files are an alternative to using the Il2VersionSwitcher.exe program. The _Switch files are needed if you do not have Microsofts .NET Frameworks and 2.0 (or above) installed.

_Switch-408_No_Mods.bat
_Switch-408_Mods_On.bat
_Switch-408_Mods_On_With6DOF.bat
_Switch-409_No_Mods.bat
_Switch-409_Mods_On.bat
_Switch-409_Mods_On_With_6DOF.bat

MKII Gyro Gunsight or Standard Gunsight for Spitfire MK IX switcher
-------------------------------------------------------------------

These Batch files allow you to choose between two different types of gunsight for the following Spitfire MK IX variants... Spitfire L.F. MK.IXc (CW) 1944, Spitfire MK.IXe 1944, Spitfire L.F. MK.IXe (CW) 1944, Spitfire H.F. MK.IXe 1944 & Spitfire MK.IX 25Lbs 1944 (but Not Spitfire MK.IXc, 1943) the two types of gunsight are Standard type (original IL2 Gunsight) or MKII Gyro Gunsight. The two Batch files for this are as follows...

_MKII_GYRO_On.bat (MKII Gyro Gunsight enabled)
_MKII_GYRO_Off.bat (Standard Gunsight enabled)

EAX (environmental audio) switcher
----------------------------------

The following two Batch files allow the user to choose the best sound sound setup for IL2. It will not effect the running of game, if you choose either of the following batch files it just simply allows the user to get the most from their sounds. If you prefer using EAX, which means you turn on the audio extensions switch within the sound setup in IL2, for this your best option is to choose the _EAX_ON. If you prefer not to use EAX or do not have EAX then your best choice is to opt for the _EAX_OFF option instead. By default this pack is set to EAX OFF.

_EAX_OFF.bat (EAX OFF or EAX Non-Compatible)
_EAX_ON.bat (EAX ON or EAX Compatible)

===============================================================================

Thats all folks !
We hope your enjoy this pack

And were do these files Live ? ... in what folder of the UI ?

_MKII_GYRO_On.bat (MKII Gyro Gunsight enabled)
_MKII_GYRO_Off.bat (Standard Gunsight enabled)

_EAX_OFF.bat (EAX OFF or EAX Non-Compatible)
_EAX_ON.bat (EAX ON or EAX Compatible)

I have searched the whole folder system and cannot find them.
I cant see them inside the UI 1.1 RAR and Exe files either.
