This mod replaces a few of the original sounds with recordings.

Tank's sound taken from a live Panzer tank

Bf-109's cockpit buzzer reduced in tone (this is not a recording but sounds similar to one I hear a year ago.)

heavy artillary has shell casing eject sound added.

explosion sound taken from a mortar (not firework) shell explosion at what was probably a very unsafe distance.

Auto sounds taken from a Studabaker truck.

Just 1 problem... Heavy Arty doesn't use shell casings. It is mearly a war head ( the round ) put into the tube followed by bags of propellent charge. The number and type of bags used, combined with the elevation of the barrel, dictates the range of the round.

Much of the arty in Il2 used rounds with cases, so this mod, although not all encompassing, is still pretty good.

German 88's used a shell casing, as did some destroyers heaviest guns.

In one sailors memoirs, which he wrote not too long ago, he recalls hearing the clanging of shell casing while on shore, from a destroyer just off the coast, though faint. (obviously between shots)

It may be possible that he heard them origionate from somewhere else, but it seems doubtful

Even in WWII, 105mm and larger did not use shell casings. Pak 75 and below do use a shell casing.

Naval 5" guns used shells casings. Large caliber guns did not.

what about the guns on the early war destroyers, I haven't seen any in real lift, but in the game, breach seems to me to be used with shell with casings.

Naval guns have basically been unchanged since WWII other than FC (Fire Control). 5" guns and below used casings as they aren't that heavy, appx 50-70 lbs /rnd. Large caliber guns 12" and above used/use a shell and powder bags loaded via a trolley/ramming tray like that found in Battleships.

(I was Navy for 6yrs before joining the Army. Should've stayed in the Navy.... DOH!).

Anyway.... The guns used on Naval Destroyers in WWII are the same guns that were still used on the Whidbey Island Class Amphibious Assault Ships (LSD's) until the early 90's until they were retired.

that makes sense.

As far as the mod goes, that seems to be similar to what I've done, most guns larger than 50mm have the shell sound, as well as naval guns on destroyers.
