I was wondering if there were any more bomber missions or campaigns in the works? Particularly ones involving B-17's, B-24's and maybe even ones involving B-29's. I have downloaded all of the ones for American med. and heavy bombers available and have become quite familiar with the FMB by modifying them for many more planes or just to suit me and my friends online. The only problem is that its not as fun to fly your OWN mission, and with the ability now to fly vitually every bomber on the game, I figured there would be more interest in this area. If anyone is working on a mission, campaign or anything like that and I can help, please let me know! I would love to contribute to one or many of these quite hard to come by missions. On the other hand, if I am the only one (not likely I would think) that wants to see more of this, if someone has an idea about a large scale bombing raid mission on a particular map, I would like to see some information. Maybe I could get some kind thing going here... Thanks guys, gals and fellow bomber fans!!

ive got a few single missions i can post. One is a massive bomber raid on berlin... i think ive got somewhere around 60 bombers in there, plus escort, flak and interceptors. It runs like a slideshow once the formation starts firing though.

Ive got another where the player is flying a B-17e attempting to escape a flock of zeros "somewhere" in the Phillipines. Its pretty fun and uses the slot map, so you'd need that.

edit: and I have a Dambusters - Pe-8 hack one too.

I like the sound of the massive B-17 raid! That sounds pretty neat! If you would, please post that! I made a mission similar to that a while ago. I wouldn't consider myself having a GREAT computer, but it runs IL2 damn good on excellent settings I think. The only thing that makes my computer stutter is lots of clouds and smoke...Not sure why though...If you wouldn't mind posting that mission (and the one with the PE2 too) I would be very grateful! Also, anyone else that wants to post their bomber missions (I know we have to post them in the proper area :wink: ) then please do! To me these are just the most fun!

I would highly recommend B-17 Flying Fortresses the Mighty Eighth if you are into the strategic bomber stuff.

I was taking a look at doing a B-24 campaign based on the Africa/Italy/Greece map. It would be based on historical USAF missions in mid to late 1943 going from Tunisia to Italy (Messina, Foggia, Naples, etc). I have some concerns though:

Long flight times. Some of these missions could take 4 hours or more to fly without using time acceleration.

Interest. Are enough people really interested in a bomber campaign.

I would be interested in such a campaign. As I stated before, with SO many different bombers to fly on the game, its truly a shame that theres not much to do with them except the few (most of which are really good!) bomber missions. I wish there were more ideas, but the Italy/Africa/Greece campaign sounds really cool! If you do any missions you would like to post online for us, I would be happy to test it out for you. I am currently working on my own mission with the Channel map involving ALL 30 something bombers taking off, building formation and taking flight over the channel. Its still in the works though, but if anyone would be interested in seeing such a thing (the flight time is almost 15 minutes just to get the coast!) I would be happy to share it after its done. All players can fly the escort (I suppose P-51D's or Spits), B-17G's...Of course there will be the oppostion, i.e:190's and 109's. If anyone has any good ideas to share about this though or they see it as being unreaslitic then let me know please. It doesn't have to be by the book historical, but it would be nice if was based off something that has really or could really happen. Thanks guys!

I will do a single mission and then see if there is enough interest in a campaign. I think I will do Tunis to Messina. I am researching now to see how far P-38 fighters could/would escort on such a mission. Would low-level or high-level be more interesting in this little experiment?

I have never flown one of the bombers (still haven't) but making the missions/campaign might be fun. Here is what I have in the works. If there is interest, I will build it out into a full campaign. One mission should be done in the next day or so.

Take-off at dawn for an attach on the Sicilian harbor of Messina.

vonofterdingen, I loved your mission! Just enough flying to keep it feeling like a bomber formation, the target seemed very believable too! However, I am not a 100% historian and was wondering if during missions in this theater it would've been likely to see formations of bombers larger than just 8? If so, would this be a possibility for future missions? Please dont take this as complaining! If this is a taste of what a mini-campaign would be like, I'd like to take a crack at it... :wink:

Yes, I think it would be easy enough to add more bombers. One issue with the Redfox map is that the runways are a little short for 8 planes to take off at once (in a line). Anyway, here are some things I am looking at:

-I'd like to turn this into a 25 mission or so campaign. They will be history-based and include raids on shipping and targets in Sicily, Italy, and Greece in mid-1943.

-Increase the number of bombers in the raiding party. To do this I will probably have 2 groups of 12 planes each from two separate bases (24 total) rendezvous then continue to target. I doubt that it would be practical to have raids of hundreds of bombers.

-I have done more historical research and now figure that fighter escort cover should only reach about mid-way into Sicily.

- I need to have German fighter encounters that make the mission difficult but not suicidal.

- I am considering adding a training mission to explain how to use the bombsight.

If anyone has any historical source I could draw on I would appreciate it.
