Swapping 3d models Mig 3
#1

I was wondering how hard it is to swap 3d models.

The reason I am asking is the Mig-3, all the variants of the Mig-3 except for the Mig-3 U use the same model which I think must have been an earlier made one from the original IL-2 as it is quite blocky especially around the radiator and wing leading edges.

The Mig-3U however uses a much smoother model which is nice to look at. Now apart from the radiator differing slightly in reality I think the discrepency isn't that much to not justify replacing the original 3d model of the Mig-3 with the one from the Mig-3U.

How easy would it be to do this? I would then do it myself....

Why don't we just use the same model for all 109Fs and Gs and Ks? its just a few little trinkets around the engine and a little antenna and brace in the cockpit, may save some hard drive space and load time

Or why not use the same model for all spits to? they look the same anyways

Lets use the Il-10 model on all IL-2s too cause its higher poly and the difference just a turret and a few radiator and design changes, no big deal

Dude... if you're catching my sarcastic drift, you'd probably have found out before this sentence that I dont really agree with what you want. Just a radiator difference? You need glasses, man, cause the Mig-3U is overall much slimmer and sexier than the old Mig-3s, and I'm not only talking about that based on the polys, I mean if you look at it, it is longer and a way less stubby version of a Mig-3.

And if that discrepancy is too little why not make loads and loads of frankenplanes too? Lets lengthen the fuselage of the Ta-183 and lower the tail and call it a Sabre, Or shorten that sabre's fuselage and raise the tail a little and call it a Fagot, Or how about we make a B-32 dominator out of scrap B-17, 24 and 29 parts? Nobody will notice the Chimera... I MEAN B-32

Look, my point is that we want to maintain the standards of IL-2 and make it stay the fun but realistic and accurate flight sim that it was from the start. Big Grin

that would be all fine and well if you happen to be modder and brought bunch of new goodies to community by now

But at present state .... its just rude

BTW, i bet that Ranwers can swap those two models and still make it correctly looking  ( not saying that he should ... )

Oh I'm sorry if I just wanted my Mig-3 to look a little prettier.

I'm well aware that the Mig-3U was a sleeker aircraft, being a touch longer than the standard Mig-3 and the canopy in a slightly different position.

However I wasn't demanding for it to be done for me by someone, I was just posing the question on how easy it would be to do. What I do with my own copy of the sim is up to me no.

And if we're going to be picky considering some stuff in the stock game I don't think what I wrote was unreasonable. e.g. the have the Mig-3 UD but in reality all Mig-3's apart from the Mig-3U were the same length. If I could I would do a whole new Mig-3.

If this is how you respond to people who ask a simple question I'm surprised they ever come back.

looma32's answer was totally uncalled for, and unreasonable - take no notice, whatsoever.

I don't know much about the russian aircraft, but if the migs need touching up the first thing I imagine modders would look at, would be other models of similar design = your was a good suggestion. Whether or not a modder chooses to do this is up to them....

Flaming like that is really unpleasant, this is a forum after all, somewhere for ideas and discussions. I think (hope) looma just got carried away writing his post, and forgot that he was actually 'talking' to someone else.... but maybe he's just an...... Confusedhock:

Are the older mig 3's wrong? I think not, I beleive they are more accurate to the desighn than the Mig-3U. Just my 2 cents.

It is my impression too that they look closer to the real thing than 3U would. Though the 3U model is more detailed and has a higher poly count than the early 3's which are a bit on the crude side. But all in all, IMHO even so they look better than the 3U model would in their place.

But they could use a bit of attention from Ranwers or some other 3D wizard here...

I would agree that the Mig-3 needs a new model for the exterior and interior. It is very fun to fly, and a fairly decent dog fighter. Visually, it's disappointing because it uses the model from the original IL-2 Sturmovik from 2001! It seems possible to replace the model, as I have seen mods replace DB-3s with Capronis and U-2s with Tigermoths, and retouches to I-153 cockpits, etc. Honestly, this would be a much appreciated mod.

i think, XabaRus-1 didn't mean replacing all older Migs with Mig 3U 3d model, he wants t o find someone who knows 3DMax and can make external model of early Migs more detailed, with highter number of polys....and i 100%agree with him

Doesn't matter, I know 3DS Max so will teach myself how to do one.
