Changing fonts and sizes
#1

There's been a bit of interest in Fly_zo's Winter Gui thread about changing fonts and sizes, so here's a bit of a tutorial on how I did it.

Firstly let me say this is not my idea, I found the information elsewhere - there is also a thread in this forum but the link in it is dead;

The font I used on this is SCRIPTBL.TTF - you can get it from http://www.fontonic.com/download.asp?id=5076

This is what I did;

1. Create folder called font under il2root/Files folder - structure looks like il2root/Files/font

2. Using the sfs extractor open files.sfs and extract these 5 files to a temporary folder - arial8.font, arialb8.font, arial10.font, arialb10.font, and arialb12.font

[Image: extractor.jpg]

3. Copy or move those 5 files from your temporary folder to your il2root/Files/font folder

4. Once you have downloaded the font file you want to use (in this case, SCRIPTBL.TTF) copy or move it to the font folder.

5. At least 3 font files now need to be edited (the 2 arial8.font files control the FMB menu and I didn't change them, you can if you wish) - Open arial10.font in Notepad/Wordpad and you will see something like this;

[quote][ClassInfo]
ClassName TTTextureFont
[TTFFile]
// Il-2-Arial.ttf
arial.ttf [color=yellow]

I prefer the default arial for the FMB, using the same font as the main screen gives me screenshot below, which is a bit harder to read (imo) Smile ;

@Jarmopower which bit of the instructions don't you understand, maybe I can explain better?

Hmmm....no. I installed to the letter as per instructions, and nothing changes.
I'm wondering if there's a possible conflict somewhere...
I'm using another mod from awhile back that changes the font size(smaller).
Anyone got any ideas? :?: :?: Cry

BBM, you could try disabling the reduction mod (edit folder name and put a - at the front) and see if that stops the conflict. I don't have it to test.

The most common errors that I have seen have been, - folder named fonts instead of font and changing the character size for the incorrect screen res.

To be honest, the thought didn't even occur to me to look for them as I usually fly with no icons or very limited ones, I'll have a look at things over the xmas break and see what I can find - You could try experimenting with the other font files in files.sfs - extract them and change fonts to see what they do.

Cheers and Merry Xmas

Hi Quelty,

Found a few other font entries but nothing that appears to effect aircraft labels ? You had any luck ?

Happy 2009!

Cheers making153, like you I played around with this a little over the break, but haven't been able to discover anything new so far Sad
