Night fighters and exhaust stacks
#1

I know some of this has been covered before, but I'm hoping with the new knowledge and experiance it might work this time.

Been flying the He-219 mod and making a mission against B-24s (at least until the Lancs and Hals can replace them) and it's a bummer they keep their nav lights on.

Then I thought, is there a way to make the nav lights a gas flame blue and place them inside the engine nacelle? Use a little alpha channel to leak a little out of the exhaust stacks.

When an plane (AI automatically) turns on its nav lights it wouldn't be obviously wrong and would enhance the night hunting effect.

Still want NAV lights for Humans? Is it possible to tie them to the landing lights? One switch does both?

Just some thinking outside the box here (or stream if you like Wink )

Thank you for your time

I believe there is a mod here around turning the nav lights off on all enemy planes

Have a look at these two threads - I had (more or less) the same question:

Thank you sir, but I wasn't talking about turning off nav lights as much as i was about creating a blue exhaust flame to home in on while night fighting. I think we could usurp the nav light function to provide the faint blue illumination as NAV lights are triggered by darkness

makes sense to me!

indeed, this is quite a good idea!

Good idea, been hashed out god knows how many times already, but its a waste of time, unless the AI gunners ability to see approaching aircraft in all weathers, and in all conditions day or night has been sorted out, let alone their ability to blast you to kingdom come in the pitch black of night with uncanny sniper accuracy.. thats the real crux of realistic night ops in this game..

Great idea! Just one issue though, most night aircraft have exhaust flash dampeners so you cant see them!

As each aircraft has independant positions for the lights, i bet we can have independant abilities to remove them on cirtain aircraft, but leave them on others, like the Bf109s, while the Bf110s have them removed, likewise, remove them on mosquitos, while leaving them on B17s.

All seeing AI don't care if you have your landing lights, nav lights or parachute on.

If you fly online it can make a difference flying against living people.

Join a squadron or something, you can fly in a different world from the OFFLINE game.

This game is best played ONLINE in all respects, that's what made it what it is.

The OFFLINE game is what it is... mostly not so excellent.

Then of course there is a great Offline alternative with the absolute best AI performance of any offline air combat game... BOB II WOV, with the patches through 2.09

It'll blow your socks off, but you gotta enjoy flying the Battle of Britain in early WW2 aircraft with Pee Shooter guns, if you fly Britisth Aircraft. If you fly the german side you have some "gusto" in your guns.
