Snow In The Desert?

I was in the FMB and decided I wanted to make a mission where it was raining in the desert. Rare, true, but plausible.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was snowing! Confusedhock:
I tried both "Rain/Snow" and "Thunder", both with the same results. I checked other desert maps both modded and un-modded and no joy. Sad
Anyone know of a way to make it rain? Is it the maps temperature?
Heck, I'll even do a rain dance if needed, just tell me which dance to do. Smile

You must river dance to the Benny Hill theme music whilst dressed as Grenadier Guardsman on top of Tower Bridge, backed by 40 men in the napoleonic uniform of the 42nd Blackwatch Highlands regiment, divided into two ranks of 20. They must also be doing the riverdance. However, the tartan on their kilts must alternate between Clan Fraser and Clan MacDonald, and they must all be facing directly at you. You have to get it just right or it won't work. You must be facing the river from the left hand side of tower bridge as you go leave the Houses of Parliament, and the backing dancers must be behind you. Policemen in the traditional British Bobbies' uniform must perform cheerleading routines on the flanks of the highlanders. Do this and I absolutely guarentee you'll get your rain.

On the subject of snow in the desert I went on a trek to morocco, and there was snow, and that was part of the Sahara... Admittedly, it was the part where the sahara collided with the atlas mountains, but even so, there was snow low down,a nd it was warmer than an average british summer day on top of the mountains! We reached the top of Jebel Sirou.

As a young man back in the 70,s I recall dropping a friend off at the Algerian border in the Aures Mtns of Western Tunisia and there was a raging blizzard happening. Ended up camping at a beautiful cork forest just outside of Tabarka.

Whoaa! Til now I thought the rain dance of the S.W. merican natives was a sight to behold, but what you describe is a definite topper.

Yes,

I was fortunate enough to live on the Continent for a total of five years, three were spent in Zaire which is now the Congo and two in Tunisia, Spent considerable time in both the mountain and desert regions. Not to mention the jungles of central Africa.

Before I dance for you you must tell me which month produces the rain. I find it odd that June produces snow. Lybia is at the equator and June should be a warm month.

Please, I beg of you, help me think like Oleg.

Then, maybe, if you are very nice and the moon is in the 7th house when Jupiter aligns with Mars, then I will dance for you.

this is part of my load.ini ( sands of time ) and i'm getting rain in both settings ( rain/snow and thunder) ... Oleg's world is whole on northern hemisphere ... no equator i'm afraid :wink:

fly_zo, you are brilliant! I went into the load.ini file for the Lybia_NE map and discovered that the month was set to '3'. I changed it to '6' and now I have rain, sweet beautiful rain!

Now, the stock Desert Online map still gives me snow. Do I need to use the .sfs extractor to get at that load.ini or is there another way to change the month? I'm betting it's something other than '6'.
This of course begs the question, why didn't 1C make the desert map(s) have rain instead of snow? (Now if he had given us a Kilimanjaro map...) Smile

Oh well, at least I now know how to change the weather for mod maps. Kinda makes me feel a little god-like. That's an interesting feeling. Sort of like having a "Black & White" moment if you will.

That should be a mod for all non-winter maps
I always hated that when I fly over the pazifik i get snow when I choose rain

Well I fixed that too. The "Desert" folder in MODS/MAPMODS had "3" set as the month and by changing it to "6" I now get rain on the Online Desert map.
These fixes may not hold true in the un-modded game. I haven't checked that yet but since I rarely fly the un-modded game anymore I don't think it will be a big deal for me.

Further snooping at load.ini files showed that most of Mod desert maps already have the month equaling "6" so all is good there.
