My WW2 models
#1

Guys I don't build static models much anymore. But I have been flying RC for years now and my favorite of course has always been WW2. Although the odd WW1 bird gets in there sometimes.

A lot of them are from kits. Some what we call ARFs. Almost ready to fly. And others completely from scratch.

The Luft 46 stuff always fascinated me. So about 2 years ago I scratch built and molded composite versions of the ME P. 1101 and the famous TA-183. The 1101 was easy to get flying but the TA-183 was another story. Lots of test flights and scary handling and a year later she flew on rails.

Both are being sold as kits now as I sold my molds to a model RC airplane company. After making them myself it became a chore and less of a hobby. I got a belly full of epoxy fumes and long days and nights.

Here's a few pictures and and you can visit my web site for more of my models. www.sneillfx.com not all are planes you'll find I made some RC subs and surfaces craft as well. The odd tank. Can't live without a few tigers and mark 3's now can we?

My wife got me this for Christmas. This is one of those ARFs. All wood built and pre-covered. You just put the basics together and put in your gear. I added a few things to make it more scale.

Me and my 1101 out for another sortie.

And my larger scale TA-183. Both scratch built with retracts.

Nice... I'm trying to build up a 1/12th scale Luft fleet. I machine my own working landing gear for each type...

I have the Fokker DVII too... put a lot of air time on that, and one mailbox hit Wink

Is that an X-1 in the background of your ARF? Is it an R/C or static model?

The planes are great but I like the work you've done on the boats (ships) Not to mention you've had quite a career. I really enjoyed looking at the things you've done and on one of your pages you said that you have taken many pictures, I'd like to see more, interesting...

That Ta-183 looks quite big. Very neat models.

Nice, plus I like the AR-196 poster and Glammorous Glennis. How did you ever build that Armored boat with General Yeager staring at you.

Again thanks guys.

The X-1 is scratch built several years ago. Flown and now retired.

Spinnetti nice to see there's another RC builder here! Post a picture or two of your Luft fleet here.

RRuger. thanks. You'd have to see the stack of pictures and slides I have yet to go through. I'll get there. Glad you liked the ships.

Yeager and I met a few years back. Spotted him in a parking lot. The next hour or more we talked all about WW2 and not so much about the Edwards stuff. He was all excited at the time about the movie they were going to make about him. So was I but the idiots of Hollywood never did make it. Our lost. His and theirs too the knuckle heads.

It was great meeting him and having him all to myself like that. Just got lucky.

Thanks again guys. I'm sure having fun with this group and on the server. A lot of hot dogs here. All I do it get my tail waxed but I'm still having fun!

I always wanted to build a scrap build, I have a couple started CAD plans here and there, but never really finished them. I do like the jets though, most I see at Jet Rallies are either Sport jets, or an F-15. Oh well, great to see some different planes from flyers then the normal stuff I've see.

How did you get the models made, did you cut the parts yourself, or send them off to a laser cutter?

Most I have to show is a P-51 and J-3 Grasshopper.

The two Luft birds had the cross sections hand cut and then wire cut foam plugs were made form that where later they were epoxy and glass covered for detailing. Then molds were made and the fuses made from epoxy glass.

Nasty work.
