Reduce hight for planecrash-smoke possible?
#1

Hi!

I was wondering if it is possible to make a mod to reduce the height of the planecrash-smoke? To me personally it would look better it it were say 3/4 or even perhaps 1/2 the height it is now. My PC is crappy and cannot cope with the smoke-mods that are available so I was wondering if it is possble to do this without affecting any other smoke effect?

What mod are you using ?
3rdeye SmokeFireContrail have pretty big chunks of crashed planes black smoke .
I could have it removed almost a month ago , I know exactly which file and what code entry line can make that happen in no time but problem was folks were complaining about not having anough long smoke trails behind planes , I really wanted to make black smoke gone completely but I knew there will be majority of those who want longer smoke trails .
Compromise was made and while preserving about same long smoke trails behind planes that 3rdeye created , I reduced crashed planes part smoke issue to almost half and even more with some planes yet preserving long smoke trails which all can be dealt with by these day's computers .
If you want planes crashed parts black smoke issue completely gone , use latest Fly! mod release which is dealing with this issue but then you can just forget long smoke trails , period .
I don't want to go even in to how many hours I have spend to find out what could remove black smoke issue but after I found it , there was this another problem of losing long smoke trails behind planes .
Something's gotta give
One effect or another , I don't think there is anything that can be done to have long smoke trails and no smoke from plane crashed parts together .
I did listen to all and I think middle road having a little bit of longer black smoke trails behind plane and at the same time shorter smaller crashed plane parts black smoke issue was about right .

I use it from day one (just launched, several months ago). Thank you to the French community.

Ok , now I see, sure those two files are responsible for lenght of aircraft crashed smoke but that's just what I was talking about , I could have it removed completely , no more black smoke at all , but there was a price to pay with much shorter black smoke trails behind the planes .
Yes , if you remove completely black smoke crashed plane parts issue , you lose considerable lenght of black smoke trail behind plane .
As I said some guys can't have it both ways , wanted no more plane parts black smoke issue ? = short black smoke trails behind plane , period .
When I removed black smoke crashed plane parts issue completely and did run my track .ntrk , smoking plane trail was not looking good when you get long gray color smoking trail behind plane and at the same time black trail that was even more than half shorter than the gray color smoke , it looked downright ridiculous
It should be the other way , black smoke color trail should be at least the same lenght or longer than gray color smoke trail , just by logic .
I think the confusion is that some want to have black smoke crashed plane parts issue removed completely because of their perhaps less powerful computers which is perfectly fine but then they need to look now how long smoke trails behind plane they get with removing crashed parts black smoke issue , it's much shorter.
Fly! did just that with his latest Mod release , removed it completely but take a look on black smoke trail behind plane , it's half shorter of what it used to be .
It's everyone's own preference what they wish to run , I just tried to explain this smoke trails behind plane and black smoke crashed plane parts relevance which as far as I know can't be separated unless Java code is changed which can't and it won't be discussed here .

PS: I had no idea about this "Aircraft crash smokes " mod , it is now even more confusing with lenght of smoke trails because if you have this mod folder placed before any of my longer smoker trails mods , those files will likely make it short again and how shoud I know who's running this " Aircraft crash smokes "mod and who's not.
I didn't even mentioned this one at all in my read me file about disabling or removing it in order not to have conflicts .
Too many files here and there gets changed causing conflicts with other mods , that's the fact right now and much harder to solve problems of others if someone will tell me HolyGrail can you make those black smoke trails longer because they're too short and I would be like what ? they're short ??
How would I fix that without knowing about this another " Aircraft crashed smokes " mod that can be very much cause of that person's problem ?

Sincerely,
HolyGrail
