Hey my technologically-superior (and wiser) peeps!

Kind of getting sick of the subpar water textures, so I've been daydreaming...
What type of desktop would you recommend to get the best graphics possible out of IL-2? I'm not that tech-savvy, so I can't really tinker around with computers, trying to build my own. Also, I'd like to have a reasonable price - I'm not really looking around for a $3,000 machine. So, basically, I want a pre-assembled PC that will get me some nice graphics, but without Vista. Don't need a monitor (if that helps any). I don't expect to buy a PC anytime soon, but having suggestions is always helpful!

look, Doc, i dont know what you are using at the moment...

but the nicest water can be enabled with NVIDIA Graphic cards only.
so, if you have good, stable FPS, when in a shipload of action, i would go for a new Nvidia graphics card for 25 dollars..
instead of wasting a thousand.
or add some RAM for 30 dollars or something...

tell me what you have and we can tell you what you need without wasting money.?

I think it's a nvidia 7800 or 8800.
I can make to where waves appear, but slows frame rates down a bit so i go with standard (with visual mods of course!)but i am getting tired of the waves. sadly my dad does not like going graphic card shopping. he is a computer freak though :roll: . But before I ramble on You can connect 2 graphic cards now for double the performence.

Graphics card should be in your future. Which one its up to you. Maybe stick in some more Memory also. Also make sure you check your power supply anything below 400W id look into something bigger.

yup, thats bang on. But it really depends on how much $$$ you want to spend. Seeing your specs it looks like you are running from onboard graphics - not good for gaming at all. Even with a modest graphics card you would see a huge improvement in gaming, and an extra 1gb of ram would always be nice.

First, better check the power supply. It may provide enough watts to run the computer as it came from the factory, but may not be able to power a new video card and more or faster RAM. Never take the rating listed on the supply as gospel. At best, a PSU is likely going to be able to maintain 80% of it's rating, cheap ones about 50%.

and must i reply is that pci-e isnt nessesary pci-e as it comes in the older pci-e v1(version) and now the newer pci-e v2 that less hard on the power and also has double the bandwith.
So buying a 8800 gt card thats optimized for pci-e v2 and having pci-e v1 on your motherboard isnt good. it will work but only with half the bandwith.
It also dependes if you have a own cord for the power on the 8800gt card and newer.(it has its own seperat power connection)
So for the psu you are looking at least 500-600w.

E8400(easely overclokable over 4ghz on air), asus p5q pro, GTX260, 2x2gb of ram, corsair 650 or 750w. If u got some spare cash, you could always go for the I7 :roll:

The 8800GT and GTS are faster than the 9600. If you opt for the 8800GTS, make sure it has 512 MB of memory, not 384 or 768MB. The later versions of the GTS have 512MB or 1GB and are faster than the early versions.

There aren't 8800GTS with 384 or 768Mb.... Never.

8800GTS with G80 chip were in 320 and 640Mb.

8800GTS with G92 chipset has got 512Mb and 256bits bus (maybe there is a 1Gb version, but with same bus).

8800GTX/Ultra (better than whatever GTS) has got 768Mb and 384bits bus.
