Wow, you're the first one to report such thing like crashing game and quiting to desktop .
I'll be honest , I have no idea about my Mod compability with Vista x64 or UI 1.0
More likely this will be rather Vista x64 issue than UI 1.0 even thou this mod was made on Sound Mod 0.93 install with V 4.09b1m game version .
So far nobody reported any crash so it's probably 99% Vista 64bit thingy .

I don't know what to do to fix it for Vista especially 64bit version issue .
It will likely be not caused by Mod alone but there is something inside mod files that Vista might be unable to process drivers specific memory allocation and then quit to the desktop .
I believe Vista 32bit is without this problem .

black smoke can be replaced for something other than black color but since we get gray color coming from various planes spots and the same thing is with black color , it's always hard to tell what in the world is really burning by game code so for that reason we have both worlds , some gray and some decent black smoke because sure in real life there was some black smoke heavy smoking also happening.
As for possibility to apply a DM to external fuel tanks and weapons/bombs? that would have to be done by steps which can't be discussed here but I can't do it myself anyway.

This game is really like " a box of chocolates , you never know what youre gonna get! "
