After initially buying IL2 in 2001 Purely to play at Surmjaeger pilots of IV/JG3.

I was a bit dissappointed that after the varios patches and add ons. We still don't have a true Bomber Destroyer FW190A-8/R2 Fitted with armoured glass/side armour and the short barrels of the MK108.

I have no idea of modelling. But would this be hard to do?

Handling would be like a fighter Fw190 carrying a 250KG bomb. But pilot/engine would be less at risk to return fire.

i don't have a clue about modding. i would really like to mod though. i don't think the fw190 you're talking about would be too hard, as it's a sort of conversion.

We already have most of it -

As you've already revealed, we don't have the armored glass side panels and shortened Mk-108 barrels - however some of the top skinners have produced Sturmjager skins with cockpit armor side panels like Cannon's skin in the photograph below.



An R8 with all armor modeled is going to fly like a truck, but then - it should, the real ones did. An R7 with MG-151/20 and cockpit, glass and ammo box armor would be nice too.

The R2 model we have takes a bit of a performance hit when the Mk-108 model is selected. It never made sense to me why, as there is no extra armor in it.

I have canon UKs wonderful skin . But that's what it is a skin.

I was hoping for something with effective armour/with Panzerglas canopy and the shorter barrels to the 30mm and the Brick handling? R7 or R8 Both would be nice (I think the factory build spec for the A-8 was R2. The R7/R8 spec being field kits to add to originally to the A-6s/a-7s as flown by Sturmstaffel 1.)

I was just wondering if anything has come of this in terms of development. Canons skin looks very nice; i'm not sure if it is just a skin or if there is indeed extra protection? If there is indeed extra protection, I wondered if a more complete armor skin like historical Sturm fw's had been produced or could be without too much trouble for the modder I hope. Thnx for any help and all the great work.

well, just a skin, no additional protection there of course.
