Mod Request - Smooth curve for railway line
#1

Hey Guys Big Grin ,

IMO if there is one thing that makes the best map look unrealistic, then it is the "sharp" curves used for railway lines.

Is there a mod out there that makes the curve look smoother, if not could this curve be modded.

I know the trains do follow this tight curve and may be difficult to get train to follow smooth curve, but I think that this is acceptable price to pay just to have smooth curves.

The train could still follow the original curve which could be hidden under the newly textured curve Idea Big Grin

I also second this idea. And also I was wondering if the Railroads could be Raised from ground level a bit like they are in real life.

i don't think that is possible with out editing every single map

I think that the lone possibility of solving this totally unrealistic rapresentation of raods and railways is to create a new texture of roads and railways and superimpose it on the texture of the territory previousely elaborated; I think that would not be needed more than five or six types of curves and two or three straights for each type. The project of vehicles or trains movements on roads and railways should be an exclusive work of mission builders, imagine the wonderful opportunity to build the trajectories of the vehicles during the air strikes or inside the urban areas. I do not think it would be too tiring for a mission builder to follow the path of a convoy, especially given the considerable number of curves in less than a different design could lead to the end.

Problem with curves is that only straight rails and points are included in original textures.

I did some work on static elevated sections:-

and working tunnels:-

Yep, always thought the trains making hard left and right turns was kinda stoopid!

if you guys can figure this out, you'll be able to solve a lot of IL-2 quirks. Namely, how all ground vehicles move. IIRC, all ground objects use simple vectors to go from a to b. So instead of gentle turns, we have the harsh ones. This affects the ships worst of all.

good luck to whoever can get it sorted

Im a request another mod here. What about some sort of a Under ground Hanger. Using the crimea (Or some thing) Rock item. And digging into it so u can park your plane in a impenetrable bunker

for all my missions, the ship issue is fixed by placing countless waypoints in a realistic curve

if we were to have maps with placed curves and all, although we wouldn't be able to have the trains follow them automatically, we mission builders could make them follow the the tracks in a realistic fashion, though it may take a bit longer

I think there is little to lose by making new maps without the default weird curves and replacing them with curves manually placed made out of either streight sections or new slight curve objects.

the rest would be up to the mission builders.

I agree with what you say but it seems obvious that this solution is totally ignored by the creators of the scenery, if to them the presence of roads and railways with angles did not constitute a abominable devaluation of their moreover splendid contribution to scenic realism. The evidence is that they rarely spoken in the forum that discuss about curves and angles ........ so I know that our talks and our time is wasted.
