Graphics question folks
#1

OK one problem fixed by the good folks on here, so here is another couple.

These are my new computer specs
AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor mmx 3D now (4 cpus) 2.5 Ghz
Memory 3072 mb Ram
DX 9c
Nvida Geforce 8500GT
Display memory 512.0 mb

Now then one of the questions i have is , can anyone how has a system like above give me an idea what the set up should be. On my Old graphics card (an ATI one ) set up was simple, but this is far more difficult, i have tried different setting but have'nt noticed any improvement, i also have installed NHANCER, secound question, do i need both nvida and Nhancer or do they conflict....Well my friends its over to you now, as always i offer my thanks in advance....Gary

hi night fighter your system's good apart from your card wich will struggle to render il2 at max config setting's , you really need to start with a 8800 gt or gts 512 or 640 mb to have a smooth gameplay i ve got a quad with 4gb ram with a 8800gts 640mb and it easily handles il2 with water-4

Nhancer. I used it because according to the "research" I did before I got my new system, I had to have it. I discovered I did not need it, and it was apparently the cause of my micro-pauses when running perfect mode. So try first with Nvidia CP and if you don't get the results you want, then try Nhancer.

Except for very high resolutions / AA / AF, I think your GPU should cut it. It is the weak link in your system tho.

The 8500 is a low end card and the rest of your system is pretty high end. I would recommend a 8800GT (512MB), 8800GTS (512MB, the 640 version actually uses an older and slower GPU), or 9800GT. I think upgrading the video card will allow you to get the best performance and visual quality from Il2. As for the graphics card GUI, I prefer nHancer as it gives more options for AA and AF modes. nHancer will not allow you to overclock, set fan speed, or check temperature, for those functions you will need other programs.

Thanks for the replys guys, i did wonder when my retailer was telling me of the new spec of the system he was building me , weather the graphics card would be able to cope as i had read in PC pilot a great article about cards and which Nvida card was best, but he told me that my one should cope well enough, now i have some doughts as after posting on here last night i did a sortie on Il-2 and got strobe flying (frame rate screw-up) so ill have to have a serious think. As for Nhancer i do like that system as its like me simple, Nvida Graphics set-up is ok if you have a degree in computers.
Anyway thanks for the advice guys...Oh and nice to see Hotspace is still out there havn't spoken since the Mudmover days, still keeping the faith as far as Queen is concerned...I hope......Gary

Yep still working on mildenhall, getting older, and like you mad about freddie and the boys, but the sickerning thing is my 17 year old son who to up guitar last year can play Brian Mays solo out of Bohemian Rapsody perfectly, which really pees me of because i cant play triangle and get it right, so where the hell he gets the musical skill is beyond me. Anyway Hotspace ive taken your advice and im getting the new graphics card, stay safe and ill let you know how the card is after it is installed...Gary

Well yea im proud but i keep it low key, you know how it is 17 years old and already a know it all telling him he sounds great would be like throwing petrol on a bonfire, Anyway ive had a crap last three months, Firstly the very same wonderful son downloaded a virus that screwed my computer and somehow the virus locked my old hard-drive thus i have lost all the wonderful skin/missons i got from the Mudmover days some 70 skins and about 25 missions for iL-2 and loads of skins and airfields on FS9....so like i said i had to get a new system, which is proving very taxing..not ih a finance way but understanding getting the best from its graphics...with my old ATI card it was a case of as you adjusted it so the picture adjusted, but these Nvida setting are for the novice simmer bloody hard to use......but yes ive ordered mine this afternoon and it should be with me in 3-5 working days, and the best part is the guy who bult the new system is going to upgrade the case and install a greater power supply for free as he acceped it was his fault he had installed the incorrect card in the first place. Anyway ill keep you informed as to what go's on, thanks again for the advice like i said without the help you and others give alot of us novices would be screwed......Gary
