New Installation Assistance please!! :o)
#1

Hi guys,

New here but not new to flight sims or mods (I play a lot of Silent Hunter 3 & 4) though I pretty much use Jonesoft JSGME to install all my mods. I'm happy multi installing, etc.

Come back to Il2 after a long time and will be rusty as hell flying!! So far I've got 1946 installed fresh, directly into 'C:\Il2 Sturmovik 1946' patched to 408 to keep as a vanilla/backup copy.

I'd like to have one copy for playing online through hyperlobby which I understand needs to be kept pretty much unmodded?

I'd like another 'eyecandy' copy for campaign/offline/modded servers that I can apply some of the crackin lookin mods from here onto Big Grin

Now I have a vanilla folder can I copy this twice, rename one say 'Il2408' & one 'Il2modded' then start working on it?

I'll also need some help with the setup tweaks - I understand from mooching here I need to mod my confi.ini & various other settings & I'll need to list my rig specs, etc. (Vista Ultimate x64/E8400 @3.6/ 8GB OCZ Reaper PC6400/ 2 x HD3870 in crossfire/22" WS Monitor)

Could someone give me a pointer on how best to setup the above installs, then I'll post a new thread with my full system specs, etc, if someone would be kind enough to help me there too.

Thanks in advance

Tigger88, the simplest way to get a good start is to install this: (The link is inoperative)

Download all 4 parts and then run the exe on Part 1 only, it will place all info from parts 2, 3 and 4 where they belong.

Make sure you are patched to 4.08 (you have already got this covered) before you run the Unified Installer.

From this install you will be able to switch between several versions of the game so you can use it online. (this UI will also add the 4.09 patch.)

You may need this: (The link is inoperative) if your game shows Russian text.
It says you only need this if you have installed ENG_SOUND_MOD, be advised, the UI installs the ENG_SOUND_MOD.

Do keep your vanilla copy though.

There are many mods that are not a part of the UI and a lot of them have self installers and are 100% compatible with the UI.

Those that are compatible usually are marked as such on their download page.

The best advice I can give is to stick to mods that have self installers unless you are very comfortable with adding stuff manually.

It might be prudent to get the UI installed and running and then, if you have more questions, come back here and someone will help sort it out.

Good luck.

BTW, just noticed you have vista, this may or may not help:

There have been issues with vista and the solutions are scattered, search vista fix in here or the PC forum.

Another possibility:

Forager - thenkyou very much, UI d/loaded & installed & what a difference already!

Not noticed the russian txt yet, but haven't played a campaign - went straight online to get shot down some!! Will check & install if needed.

Vista install went fine, into a folder direct onto C drive, run as admin, very simple & played for a coupla hours tonite with no snags Big Grin

I've tweaked my confi file too around a setup I saw on the Ubi forum, would it be worth me posting it here with my rig for some feedback in relation to the UI mod performance?

Thanks for your quick response & help, much appreciated

Tigger88, good that all went well and you're welcome.

As far as posting your config file, can't hurt, you may get some additional tweaks from someone.
