I use the preset files in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\files\presets

[common]
mode relobj pos
type mixer
infinite 1
EAXMix 0
occlusion -200
occllf 0.25
eaxroom 10
obstruction -200
obstrlf 0.25

mutable 1

All mod sounds have a "preset", so you can adjust sound by sound, you need know as example BMW800 is the FW190 engine, you use google to know the name of canon or mg used in a plane.

I have 5.1 as well but I've found that I get better sound with the audio enhancements and hardware acceleration clicked 'off' What I think is what I've said in other posts, you just have to play with your sound settings. This is a re-occuring problem with IL2 but it's really up to your individual settings. I don't think anyone here can say do this and this and your problem will be solved. But the first thing I would do if I were you is un-check AE and HA and give that a try, good luck Wink

I appreciate this

I know exactly what you're talking about but the others in this thread do NOT know what we're talking about. The rest of my 32 man squad doesn't either. I was beginning to think I was the only one that suffers with this.

Everyone else in my squad says: Wow! That ack sound is so realistic and cool! But for us it sounds like it went off INSIDE our cockpits not outside and some 4k meters away? It is weird!

I have a simple onboard sound 5.1 supplied by an ABIT P35 MoBO. I have none of the fancy reverbs on. About the only thing unusual about my setup is that I use a very cheap headset plugged into my rear speaker port to gain a quasi surround sound. My Ventrilio is solid and sounds great. I have extensions enabled, because if I don't I lose the sound to rear speakers.

Hey, if either of us figure this out let's let the other know!!

vpmedia, I have flown with that setting at 2 for a long time. I have changed it to everything from 1 to 7 with no help.

Paulo, using you method is how I survive without total hearing loss.

The search continues,

Did I say something wrong?? Attitude? I'm not copping one I'm merely saying that NO amount of explanation of the situation seems to help others understand what's really going on and going wrong...

sorry if I came across as "flip" in some way...

UGH!
