OOF Needs you!
#1

This goes out as a request to all those budding ground units creators!

As you will hopefully be aware, OOF, Over Oleg's Fields, is the first attempt to creaet an actual First World War mod for IL2 that isn't a simple reskin. As such, all ground units are from the stock IL2 selection; most are not that accurate.

When the time comes to have map mods, if we want any good maps to become excellent, we will need propper ground units.
As I am British with an interest in the First World war, most of my knowledge concerns British vehicles and ground units, so the list maybe one sided; nonetheless we need these units. Many, i suspect, can and will become 'generic' multinational vehicles, such as WW1 era trucks etc.

We need:
- Propper Trench Systems instead of little slit trenches -- a 3 line trench system would be ideal, but a staggered trench system, with corner sections so that we can have a weaving and varied trench system would be fantastic -- not just set straightline systems as with certain WW1 maps i've seen already. Like a scalextric (british slot car toy) set -- straight sections, corner sections (with varying degrees from a tight turn to a broad turn), special sections -- but with trenches instead of slot car tracks!

- Trench additions, such as mortar sections of trench, machine gun nests -- not pillboxes, but additions to the trench system itself.

- Barbed wire

- Artillery of the static field gun type. British 18pdr, and french and german 75mm guns, and possibly bigger howitzers would be great.

- Trucks. Generic WW1 trucks are a must! I suggest the Thorneycroft Type 'J' 3 ton lorry or equivilent french or german design.

- AA trucks. With a light aa gun, akin to the 37mm on a half track, but a much less accurate or damaging smaller calibre weapon. Such as the Thorneycroft J Type 13pdr SPG. It had a quick firing 13pdr gun.

- AA guns. Like older versions of the 88mm gun (prototypes of the famous Flak36-37 were around in 1918, although no way near as effective). Some form of generic medium artillery gun firing at aircraft would be excellent.

-Armoured cars, generic. Based on the Rolls-Royce Armoured car, or the renault and peugeot armoured cars, or german equivilent.

- Early Tanks. British Mediumm A 'Whippet', Mark IV Male tanks; French Schneider and St Chamonds, also the Renault Ft-17 light tank; Possibly the German A7V (which fought at Amiens against british Mark IVs; the combat was inconclusive untill a german tank fell onto its side. Neither the A7V nor mark IVs destroyed any enemy tanks. Gravity, however, wins 10 points for knocking out an A7V!) Bear in mind, the germans can used captured allied armour.

-Heavy bunkers and pillboxes to represent the more dug in german positions like the Hindenburg line.

-Observation balloons.

-Tents and huts for airfields.

For many of these things, such as tanks, trucks, emplacements, they can act as generic ones, with a simple retexture to show the different sides. Such as machine gunners in khaki (or blue) for the allies or grey for the germans.

If people could create these, it'd be fantastic and a truly worthwhile addition to the OOF project.

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

Ok, I've cleaned this thread upto the orignal post. I have a few points here, so I recommend you read this closely, and carefully as you will NOT be given a second chance on this...

- There is a team assembled here, under the AAA roof to develop this package as an ADDON - NOT a conversion, package. It is designed, and intended to further expand IL2 as with any other mod here.

- The NAME is not up for discussion, it is not a major part, everything must be called something, this is what we have decided for this package.

- There is NO division of the "Mod Community" over the fact that there is this being produced, myself am a part of it. I am sharing my time between my projects, which - thank you, runs the gauntlet from WWI to Cold War.

- If I catch ANY off topic posts in this thread, they WILL be deleted, and the poster dealt with to the fullest extend of my power on these boards - you have been forewarned.

Now, back to the original REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE...
