[BETA] P-51 B/C COCKPIT REPAINT UPDATED 21/12
#16

thanks all for the pics/info on sights-actually recognised bombing head sight from the url before sandman posted pic- how sad is that!!

more here

http://gunsight.jp/b/english/data/sight-e-aa.htm

k14 (or really gcsII) as far as i'm aware was not fitted to mustangIII, certainly not as standard- field modifications are another story, mkII reflector (from spit etc) i have heard of (even on p-47!)
25lb boost gauge is possible (again as a field mod) but as it uses the c pit would affect that. i might do that as a private project tho- visual only- have to check on line up of scales-i think one of the many 25lb raf gauges should line up reasonably.

as stated previously mesh work is not in my skill set so we're probably stuck with the early d model sight for now but am going to have another go at repainting withe the 'crackle' finish to emphasise the rubber pad, i'll see how it looks. you get to keep the slipball this way

black panel surround- shouldn't be a problem- couldn't work that out from b/w photos so i went with oleg's version  - but that's why it's a beta Big Grin

anyway progress update, b model is working fine as a clone of the c- if anyone knows of any variations between diff factories i'll include them.
damage gauges are done and g/f pics seem to work fine on the blanking panel lhs.
will upload this when i get back (from next job away) next week and if all is well will do a low res version for low end gpu's

Hi Bolox

By 1945 the Mk II Gyro gunsight appears to have been in widespread use in Fighter Command's 11 and 14 Group Mustang IIIs. I have most of the FC Mustang III combat reports for the period July '44 to VE-Day and by early 1945 use of the GGS is more often noted than not. I also have several photos of the GGS installed. So far I have direct evidence of GGS use for 19, 64, 65, 122, 126, 309, 315, and 316 squadrons. Let me know if you'd like a copy of any of the documentation.

I'd love to see an accurate +25 lbs boost gauge for the mk III, but I it makes sense that it would adversely affect the P-51C pit. Oleg told me that he was going to leave the MAP gauge as is when he decided to go ahead with the Mustang III but he didn't say it was because it would apply to the C pit, as well. Unfortunately, as implemented, it jumps directly from 61" Hg at 100% throttle to 70" anywhere from 101-110%. Why 70", I don't know as that's only around +19 lbs boost.

Thanks again for your excellent work! I'm thrilled to see the B/C/III getting some TLC!

Brent

i'd love to see evidence, we all might learn something Big Grin pics in particular of mustang III pits extremely welcome for details of raf changes to cockpit fit out

i've been going on accumulated 'lore' on various forums over the years and tbh my interest ingame is earlier- the b/c model idea came from looking at how to get instruments in the p-40 e/m which seems to use p-51 c tga's and it sort of snowballed as no one had touched the mustang at the time, and it is a rather important plane for both raf/usaaf.

stuff you are discussing is really pointing to a new slot aircraft for mustangIII- again well beyond my skillset- i can only paint what's there at the moment (and i'm still learning this)-i can't even chop in other meshes atm  but it is something i want to work on when i finish the b/c pit.

changing gauge behaviour is also something well beyond me atm but is something i am interested in as there are many little 'faults' ingame with needle behaviour- such as p-47temp needles. again this is stuff for new slot as i understand it- changing fm and coding is a 'delicate' topic. what's really needed is a team similar to the fw190a3 to do it justice- probably gonna be a long wait while the gurus work on current projects but lets see what develops.

thanks again for your input (and everyone else  ) i really appreciate it.

think it's done now, low res version and g/f pic file in first post and will be submitting for approval in a day or two as long as no problems are reported

D model- maybe? but Freddy has done one and Zephyr is also meant to be working on a version so i think i'm gonna take a few days off and drink some beer Tongue

have a good xmas/new year.

Hi Bolox, thanks for this great mod, its beautiful. But could you, after you've finished your well deserved beers, make a D version?? I've tried Freddy's and - I don't want to make any trouble - there's something 'not real' about his D version, it looks a bit overdone IMHO. And my FPS was down to about 2 or 3 so I can't use it anyway, something I didn't have even with your high res version.

ok then, a quick D then- n9 version only, as an xmas special

this is a quick cut and paste- there are a few bits that need doing properly.
