Transfering IL-2 1946 to another computer...
#1

Hello,

I just received my new PC and I wish to transfer my existing IL-2 1946 (modded to UU 1.1) to the new PC using a USB key or burning a DVD(R or DVD-RW..
Is it possible and how or do I have to installe everything again out of the box?

And I suppose that legally I am allowed to do that since I own these 2 PC's...

Sincerely,

There are probably other ways but this is what I did

Burn your Ubisoft folder from Program Files to a disk (I had to use a dual layer DVD due to its size - 5.63 GB)

On the new machine install Il2 FB 1946 from your original install disk making sure you use the same path as the install on your old PC ie

C:\Program Files or C:\Games

After installing / mounting Il2, delete the Ubisoft folder and copy the one from the DVD that you burnt to the same location

Hello,

What's the use of installing again from the box on the new computer? Isn't it possible to do it without using the original IL-2 946 disk? I know that it poses a legal issue because then anyone could do it without buying the game...Fine...But I really bought the game and I try not to scratch my "sacred" IL-2 1946 original disk..That's the only reason why...

But you solution can save me time because then I don't have to patch and install UU1.1, etc...(hopefully)...

mavyalex, IMHO, you should be able to just copy the entire game folder, using whatever means, USB,DVD'RW, onto the other PC, and run the game - it should work, at least mine always has. I've made copies of the original game several times over, no hassles.
I use XP, though, I have no idea how Vista will handle it... :?:

To just copy over to the new PC I have 5 IL2 games on my PC and two on external BU drives and I make a copy of my game as a backup about every week or so it will work just fine ....now after saying all this if you are using Vista go find out if it will work the same we at our group have had some problems adding Mod's to the game with vista hope ya get it all going

Yep,

I see no reason to install it?

Hook the two computers together and "Copy Here"

Just echoing what the previous guys already said: A copy+paste is all you need.

Yeah I just install the original il2 46, patch to 4.08m and then paste the other on top.

I was going to ask that question: How do you hook them together? Before (like 15 years ago or less or more), before Internet, USB, Wifi and all that, I know one could have direct connection through serial cable (not the parallel port for the printer, the serial one) and use an MS-DOS software called Lynx I think (very basic bluescreen application)
Benefit: very esay to use and transfer rates were ok for that time...But of course nothing to do with present daytime transfer rates..
I don't know if you can do it using parallel ports, but anyway we don't have much of these today with USB ports...
But if all you supports fail (CD/DVD rom drive, USB key, USB ports, Wifi-, Internet,) well this could be the last solution!( and could save you...)

Makes sense?

Ethernet "crossover cable" (connect two PCs to each other via the ethernet ports)

I always set up a simple File share between computers. I just pick a folder click on sharing and security and go from there. Really easy. Faster your connection the better.

Oh I see.....poor choice of words on my part, sorry. I was speaking figuratively when I said "hook together"!

Apologies,

I run Vista and have had no problems copying and pasting multiple copies of various Il2 versions on my machine or to external drives. I also have had no problem running a heavily modded version of the game - which is the main version I now play thanks to AAA. Haven't tried to copy my modded version, though.
