MODS structure (naming, foldering...)
#1

Hi all,

there are soo much great mods that one wants to have but sooner or later you can have problems with keeping track wit versions, collisions, right order in which they must be loaded etc. I have a couple of questions. I could try this myself, but i'd have to wait till i get back home Smile

- is it possible to just rename the mod folder to something that suits me? Say i have "Bender's Smoke folder" and would it still work if i would rename it to "GFX_Smoke_Bender_V1.0"? I think that this is fine as i think i did this for some mods it's just that it was a while back.

- the next one is questionable. Can i make a folder structure like this: GFX for graphical enhancements, SFX for sound enhancements, we already have MapMods, and i think that Aircrafts also have their own folder, not sure as i am not using any. And then copy mods into this folders. Would that still work? Never tried this one and i am somewhat positive that this would not work. If it does, so much better.

It's just that i find it hard to keep track of everything. I am keeping a version file in each mod, or at least date of when i dl-ed the file but i need more order Smile Just like we have for maps. UserPrefix_MapName.

Thanks on your thoughts.

Yes, it work.
I did it many time.
Should be a good idea for the modders use a common structure, like u say, GFX for the effect, SFX for the sound, Cockpit for cockpit repaint and so on.

Or use Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler (JGME).
It is now fully IL-2 compatible. I've been using it for over a year on IL-2.
Also manages swaps between different versions 4.08, 4.09, 4.08mod, 4.09mod
Just reset the JGME default folder to XODS (or whatever you prefer)
An option to do this is provided when you start.

Get JGME here:
