Playback sounds on media files??
#1

Guys,

I'm posting here as i've exhausted every avenue on the web, from registry tweaks to uninstalling/installing codecs, updating my soundcard drivers, trying different media players (WMP11/Real/Winamp..) but I have this horrible problem with the sound when playing back media files either from disc or direct from my pc - it appears to be just .wmv files as all my system sounds are ok and some files do playback normally. IL2 is fine BTW!

I keep getting garbled/crackly/as if its in a bathtub, sound when playing these files - almost like the chipmunks and totally unintelligible - they all used to play fine up to 2 days ago ?? Have I been trojaned ?? AVG hasnt reported anything?

I'm at a total loss to rectify this - can anyone help ??

Any help gratefully recieved,

Mick

That's odd for sure. Do you run your sound right from your computer or do you have it amp'd like I do? I run mine thru a Kenwood amp and I'm wondering if (you do) it might have something to do with that. Have you tried other sources for the sound, meaning speakers as opposed to headphones and is the problem consistant? Was there an install that you did right about the time that it messed up? What sound card do you have and do you use those drivers or??? When you have a problem like with sound the more information the better. So let's start again and see if it can't be fixed and at last resort you can roll your computer back to when it was working Wink

OK until 2 days ago...

How about trying a system restore?

Hi Guys,

Tried a restore - still the same!

I run XP Pro with onboard SoundMax Digital audio on an ASUS PS4800 MoBo, the drivers are all up to date - all windows sounds are ok, AOL has got quieter?? despite turning up the volume, IL2 is fab its just these .wmv's, even on youtube ??

I dont run thru an amp but just have a bass booster (old TINY which is still going strong). I've installed most codecs and the problem is there in WMP/WINAMP/REAL etc etc.

I'm sure its some stupid incorrect codec or registry entry somewhere (although codec detective reports no probs) - I found what I thought was the answer (HKLM changes in MediaPlayer) but it hasnt helped, not surprising as its not only in WMP !!

I'm totally stumped,

Mick
