IL-2 Mixture controls
#1

Firstly sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, where should it be?

I have purchased a Saitek throttle quadrant and am having problems assigning the mixture controls.

Actually, the more i looked into it the less succes i had.

Quadrant asided, is there any way you can get manual control of the mixture options in IL-2 1946?

Even when programming the keys to the mixture options in the contol panel it still doesn't work.

cheers, Aussie Pilot.

Hey Aussie. Assigning mixture controls to your throttle slider can't be done in IL2 without using an extra program - which I can't remember right now (the link is on my work computer!). Anyway this program basically listens to your throttle inputs and you can program it so that certain ranges of the slider correspond to certain mixture levels through translation into keypresses. I'll see whether I can dig up the link tomorrow.

If you don't mind searching for it, I'm sure i found the link on the simpit sticky thread in the official Ubi forums....

Hi tsb47, i tried finding that link but didn't find too much info.

Even when i assign key comands on my keyboard to adjust the mixture, they don't work. I don't see the mixture lever in the cockpit moving or hear any change in engine sound or rpm, i can't even stop the engine by leaning out the mixture to much.

My saitek quadrant comes with a programme to do what you were saying above. It assigns key responces along the levers axis route of movement so at one point it will trigger one key response and then move the lever a bit more and it will trigger another key responce, ie being 20% mixture then 40% and so on. It's just that i can't even get the keys to respond...wierd.

But You did enable the complex engine management, right?

I did enable it but will try it all again in case i left something out.

cheers, AP.

I think that for many, if not most, of the aircraft in Il2 there is very limited, or no, mixture control, even with complex engine management.
Try it with the Buffalo or one of the Russian planes- these have full mixture control. Planes like the Spitfire or the P 51 do not. Many others such as the US Navy Fighters only have the option to use full rich (110%) or auto rich (100%). You cannot for example "lean out" the engine on the F4U to shut it down.

Many AC have auto mixture, in some u can select auto o manual mixture, try the G50 for a manual mixture only.

May be u are talking about "Throttle", but as far as I know this software is for the CH Throttle, don't know if it work with Saiteck Throttle Quadrant.
Search on the Ubisoft forum.

Ok if the keys in game are not working sounds like you are selecting a plane with auto-mixture. Try the zero, it has manual mixture control, and is a friggin awesome plane.

Here is autohotkey, this allows you to map keystrokes to throttle quad positions:

Interesting subject and I hope you sort things out Aussie Pilot.

Murph, yes on the F4U (120%, then after launch back to 100%) but the SBD and B-17s can fully adjust mixture.

Have'nt experimented with others.

Thanks tsb47 and others.
I have been able to assign mixture to key commands and you were right, i had selected a plane with auto mixture (not that i knew that).
Anyway, there are several it works with and some just 100% - 120% as mentioned above.

It appears most are auto though, especially my main ones i fly, so now i have to wonder if it's worth the hassel's of trying to programme them with the programmes available that came with my quadrant or the one you posted.

It would be good if there was a mixture Mod to make them all manual if you wanted.

cheers again, and thanks to all.

Hi Aussie, if you are going to program for mixture, I would recommend using the software that came with the qudrant before using the sutokey program - autokey requires some manual programming.

I have a quadrant and I used the controller software that came with it to set it up for fuel mixture, and it works great (in 10% increments). I bound the 'thrust reverser' at the very bottom of the lever's movement as 0%, so I don't accidentally kill the engine when moving the lever around - that way it requires a bit more force to get over the notchy resistance near the bottom of the movement.

Using "PPjoy" and "Glovepie" I also made the quadrant work with multi engines, but performance wasn't 100% satisfactory (didn't work well if moving both throttles at the same time, only when moving them one at a time).
