Newbie on installing mods
#1

So this is my story: I installed IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles and I liked it. But I decided to install few mods to it to make it even more better. So I downloaded IL2_Mods_Collection_Package.V.8 or something. In install.txt of that mod is writed that you just need to extract ModsPackV8.zip file( over gigabyte of files), copy all files to IL-2 folder and play. So I done that and launched the game. Splash screen turned to be modded (and russian language too), so I thought that everything will work, but loader stuck on 5% and eventually game closed. I know I made something stupid , maybe even installed a wrong game, but I don't know what to do now. Can somebody help me? Sad

Well, i made a similar mistake with my IL-2:1946 installation just a couple of days ago! 8)
Look here: (The link is inoperative) and maybe you will find something interesting for you.
And remember that if you change your il2fb.exe file, it'll have to load new files when you run the game. So if it can't find the requested files cause they're missing or in the wrong place, the loading will freeze and the game won't load!
But, I don't know if you can install mods over IL-2: FB, and I actually doubt it... :?
My game wouldn't load just because I forgot to install 4.08m, so I imagine IL-2: FB is not enough to run the mods. But I'm not sure. Hope you'll fix it all mate!
Cheers.

Well, I arleady installed 4.80m but still no difference. I wanted to install 4.09m or something too, but couldn't find it... Say, does Il-sturmovik is standalone or just like a expansion pack for a real game. And does Il-2 sturmovik have any difference to Il-2 1946?. Maybe it's just the wrong game...... Because in mod grocerylist is written: "

The following items will be auto-installed as you install the package:
____________________________________________________________________________________

- Patch 4.08m

- Patch 4.09b1m

- Backup of some original files and folders

- Latest (to date 12/22) beta DLL's

- Sound mod 0.93
...................."
And lots of other stuff

Il2 1946 includes everything that is in previous versions of the game and more. It is the required starting point for modding the game. I don't think any of the mods will work over just FB.
Il2 FB was an expansion pack for earlier versions of Il2, but was superceded by Ace Expansion Pack, Pacific Fighters and 1946. 1946 version 4.08 is the last official version, with 4.09 an official beta patch.

So If i install IL-2 1946 then I'll have Pacific fighters, Ace expansion pack, and forgotten battles too? Cool. So I then only need to patch IL-2 1946 to 4.08m and mods will work? Also, does Il-2 1946 have those fancy planes like Heinkel 'Lerche' ? Because I really want to try it out lol!!

Yes, those 'fancy' planes, as you call them, are all to be found in IL2 1946. Big Grin
Of course, all the best new planes are still to be released right here at AAA Big Grin 8)

Yay, thanks everyone. I'll try how mod will do with IL-2 1946

EDIT: Well, everything worked, but now all stats text(like "Fraps: Combat" or "Gear down") has changed to different. Some of them has been made funnier, but I don't understand others very much.
Is there a easy way to change them by myself, or change them back?

Ok, so now everything works, but if I try to install any other mod(nuke), loader crashes at 60%. Installed MOD_Activator_v5_2_IL2_4_08, it only changed splash screen, still 60% is deadend.

Edit: Found out that it needs something called AC installer 2.7, but I haven't found it. Only thing that I found to do something with AC installer 2.7 is very big file containing lots of mods, but I only need AC installer 2.7 or Nuke

Hello,

Could somebody tell me if I need to learn a computer language such as Java or JavaScript to develop mod effects and other functionalities in IL-2 1946

I would like to create some visual effects, animations, etc, but do I need any specific computing experience for this or is it easy to learn?

Thanks.
