I'm happy enough with the PBN Nomad, which is very similar to the PBY Catalina if my memory serves me correctly

in fact, the catalina and the nomad are the same plane... the only difference is that the catalina was built by consolidated in the USA and the nomad was built by canadair in canada.

The big difference between the two was that the Nomad was strictly a seaplane, it could only land on water. The Cat had wheels and could land on either land or water, a true amphibian.
Do a search here for the project to create a Catalina- it's currently on hold, I believe. The modeler, Gibbage, lost his job and had more important things to worry about for a while.

There was only one amphibian version of the Catalina, the PBY-5a, the "a" being the important part. The PBY-5 was strictly a seaplane. All versions could be fitted with beaching gear, however this was a manual process.

The PBN in the game has a different nose, nose turret and much taller tail than the PBY. Otherwise, it's close enough for government work.

Don't forget about the PBY-6 and PBY-6A. these were amphibious variants of the Catalina as well....
