I know the squadron skin is wrong for Burma but I just wanted to show off this beautiful BurmaLower map while I'm waiting for my graphics card issue to be fixed. FabianFred got this map started for us and now we are allowed to finish it. I'm learning how to on the tutorials so I'll try to do what I can.

I know you from M4t I am kirbicus,

I think you gave me Air War in Burma.

I did a template a long time ago on the original Burma map.

Fred is a great man he gave me upper burma to work on.

Fred's works are awesome!!!! Especially when you live very close to that theatre.

I have a lot of time off to centre on that over March/April.

I'm really keen to centre on that map first.

I also have lower burma as you do.

Lots of research.

Hi Kirbicus! Yes, I do remember you from M4T. I never did get around to using your Burma template though. I got caught up amongst other things kinda like FabianFred. Good to see you're working on our little project here. I believe I finally got my graphics problem fixed so now I can start editing BurmaLower.

I discovered the easiest thing for me was doing text files. I spent all last night (zzzz!) placing all the names of towns shown on the map as well as many other villages/places/rivers not shown.
I gladly have a text file with all those names listed now! I only planned to do texts for a part of the map but once I got going I couldn't stop!

I guess my next step should be to add villages so I'll have to learn about that. Any tips for placing villages?
Has anyone else done any work on BurmaLower?
I've Pm'd with MrOblongo and as far as I know it's just the three of us.

WIP update.
I've been adding some towns, airfields, roads, railways. I don't have photos for almost all airfields so I"m winging it on what they look like. I figure most were simple single-strips and all-dirt (from what I've read) so I add field textures and use different parts of the Imphal runway to use as a simple runway. Then I add different fields of grass textures around that to make it look unique.

I'm kinda proud of my effort of Meiktila airfield. It looks similar to the real thing, in my eye, anyway.

I learned how to make roads and railroads and I've done the whole west side of Burma and parts of southern (added to FabianFred's). I still have all of Central Burma all the way up to north of Mandalay to do -- a bunch. And all of eastern Burma---not many roads there anyway.

Then I have to smooth the airfields in map_H.
I also changed up the ground textures of the Load file and it's a little different from FabianFred's version but I'm satisfied with the overall look of the map. As you know, it's difficult trying to get the right looks where you want them so we have to compromise with some issues of the game.

Are there any photos of airfields at Chittagong, Ramree, Akyab?

All right CzechTexan! Keep at it. Hopefully, you can do something w/ the actors.static too, since this map plays like a slideshow 4 me.

Would it be OK to cut off part of the eastern side of this map?
Would it affect the work already done like airfields and roads, etc?

This map size is very large and uses a lot of memory. Some of the eastern side of it (1/3) is more Thailand than Burma. There was not much fighting in this area. Should some of Thailand be cut off or should it be kept? Thinking about eliminating 1/4 of the east side of the map starting at CL. This would still include Lashio, Chiang Mai, and Lampang.

I would consider cutting off some of Thailand if it would not affect the WIP already done.
Is it possible?

This BurmaLower Beta map will be downloadable 3-28-09 to be tested by others and get feedback on the WIP. I have not populated any towns other than what FabianFred had already done like around Toungoo and Rangoon. Will populate and possibly add more rivers and bridges in future.

Still have a few more airfields and seaplane bases to add. I'll squeeze in Agartala and a fictional Dacca airfield in the northwest corner. Their locations won't be exactly correct but it will give a chance to make scenarios of the Japanese bombings there.

Here are some of the bridges I built before I realized there is a MOD bridges objects available...

Best of luck with this chaps. Smile
I did the rivers and water features on Ian Boys' original Burma map; I got well into the geography and history of the area. Truly fascinating.
I'll be looking forward to these maps, keep up the good work!
