Well...this thread has grown a little since I last checked in. Smile

Thanks for all the input!

I'll do some more testing with heavy loads to see about adjusting the catupult power. It would be helpful, if you're having trouble getting certain loadouts in the air with the catapult, if you could post the type of aircraft, loadout, weahter condition, ship speed and direction, and wind speed and direction, if any.

And if you're using the wind mod remember the WindDirection parameter is the direction the wind is coming FROM. So if you want a headwind (which you do), the WindDirection parameter should have the same value as your ship's heading (the direction your ship is heading TO). Also the WindVelocity parameter is measured in Meters per Second. One MPS is roughly 2 knots.

Even better if you can email the mission file (.mis) to: fireball.mods@gmail.com

I THINK it may be possible to adjust the catapult power based on the weight of the plane. I'll have to look at that though.

As for the FPS hit some are experiencing, I don't know now what would be causing that. The only mod I know of so far that this one would conflict with is the PAT Smoke mod, but I don't know that that has any connection to the FPS issue.

Well I Guess its working as it is supouesed to. With a Loaded corsari it barelly gives enough momentum and you need relative wind to take off. Witch is by the way very realistic!

There are people like me that didn't use the Wind mod, so a more powerful catapult will be needed, something that let you use a Fully loaded corsair with fuel ( drop tanks ), bombs and rockets take off of a 35km/h CVL

I'm not sure if it's just me but I can't get this to work off the ShipPack 2 CVLs. The Graf Zeppelin works fine but none of the others.

Why wouldn't you be using the wind mod RealDarko?? I know how much you're into carrier operations. This mod is the cat's A$$ !! You should give it a try. I'd be glad to send you one of mine to try out if you like. :wink:

Never tried as it sounded complicated and you need to configure it for each mission

Wow- just tried it with the Carrier Takeoff single player in the F4F and I am impressed 8)

Looking forward to trying it with other kites.

It should work for all carriers that have cats even the jeeps. WHat ship were you using?

America,

I just ran the coop you send me and I had no issues. My frames are down because of the weather, earlier morning fog, and low light. The turbulence is severe at best too. If you ran the same mission with a cloudy or clear day and changed the time of day to noon or something you would have great frames.

I had no AI problems at all. I ran the mission twice taking fighters and bombers with no AI trouble. You have to put yourself in the back of the pack though because AI will launch on you. I had AI behind me on the Cat, chocked in and they flew right threw me.

I probably have a mod you don't. I added alot more stuff then just UI 1.1... Ill try turning off more mods untill i can figure it out.

VF-51:

I just ran all three CVLs from ShipPack 2 in a coop mission; up to this point I'd run it from FMB. The only one that uses the cat is the San Jack CVL 30. Princeton and Belleau Wood have cats on deck but won't use them.

edit: just ran another mission 'cause I forgot about Illustrious - it doesn't use the cat either.

I'm mostly an online flyer, and I dont have the wind modd installed as I suppose it wont be available at current dedicated servers.

I tested the TBF out from a CVE on the cat, always with full flaps, as I've seen it done on some WWII carrier ops footage (historicaly, they always take off full flaps).

Result: I cannot take off with 1 torpedo + 50% fuel.

Nevertheless, if the CVE is moving (offline) I have to aply some nose down as the TBF tend fly up in a quite unrealistic way.

The solution would be a cat push strenght proportional to the current aircraft total weight. That would definitly be the solution.

By the way, there's no FPS drop in any circunstance.

Plantoid, that is very strange. I just launched from the Illustrious moments ago with the catapult mod. I admit to not having tried any of the other CVLs, but will do so right now.
